Has anyone bought one of these? Any feedback? Is it worthwhile?

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

| Heck, I'll sell you all my wheats for that price and I even have a 1909 VDB mixed in with them. |

Considering how "common" wheats are, like one wheat per two rolls, I was surprised of the cost, even from Apmex. Probably well worn and sorted. Anyone ever *bought* wheats? |

There is no such thing as unsearched wheats.
If someone goes to the trouble of pulling them from circulation via roll hunting, buying at garage/estate sales etc, then selling them to a coin dealer, or on ebay then they will certainly search them for key dates.
Apmex may not search the coins, but you can be certain they were searched by more than one person before they got to Apmex.
I have never bought from Apmex, but my opinion is that it is not worthwhile.

I bought 11 bags when they were at the $199/5,000 level. In fact they added $30/bag to the price directly after that, so you can thank me for bumping up their price level :) They actually were a really decent mix. Naturally very heavy on the 40's and 50's, but lots of 30's, 20's, 10's in there as well.
vrbsroma: If you truly find 1% wheats, then you should definitely sort a ton more. You could easily sell them for 4 cents each, way more for pre 40's. I seriously doubt they are that common for you though.
Back to APMEX's "unsearched wheats". As I have bought enough "unsearched wheats" to at least be somewhat of an expert, I will say that they were well above average. Probably a 8.5 out of 10 on the "unsearched" scale. And when they were 4 cents each, they were a GREAT deal. Now, at $250 or whatever, not great, but not terrible, although I'm not buying at that level. |

| I get lots of 50s and some 40s in poor condition. After 10 boxes now I'm averaging more like 3-4 wheats per box. At $250 I don't think I'll buy the bag. At 200 I would. Thanks for the feedback! |

| Barry - how was the quality of the wheat cents? Were some coins corroded, bent, scratched, really worn, etc? I know coppercave separates out premium (problem free) from ugly (problems mentioned in last sentence) so I am curious if APMEX does the same. |

There were a very small number of corroded ones (probably under 15 per 5,000 if memory serves). And I actually don't recall a single bent one, although there could have been some edge damaged ones that I didn't notice in my first pass (I haven't cherry picked them yet.).
As I said, a really reasonable set of 55,000 :) |

| You are very correct, they were a STEAL at $199/each and the shipping for all combined was only $20 or so! I was even tempted to buy more at their new +30/bag price, but I didn't. I was super happy with the bags though and I toy with buying more all the time :) |

When do you plan to go through them? I'm curious what you find! |

I for 1 still believe there are unsearched ones out there.Just because you don't find any great coins in the bag doesn't mean they were searched, just means they are more valuable for a reason(they are rarer).I recently bought a 9lb jar off of an older gentleman who for the last 10 or so yrs when he saw a wheat,he put it in the jar.To me that is totally unserched.Best I found were some teens in VF condition but nothing rare as they are just that, rare. Funds good score right there |
Buying CU cents!!!! Paying 1.2 unlimited amounts wanted. Can pick up if near Ohio area. |
