I save them and just toss them in a bag, regardless if they are copper or not. I have also noticed a decrease recently. Has anyone else seen that or is it just me?

| I also save any Canadians I find. The only ones I seperate are ones older than '64. Seems to be a universal coin cut-off date. Everything else goes in a Budweiser mug. |

I save the coppers. I also buy pre-sorted coppers from our forum friends up north since it takes a long time to pull a pound of Canadians from circulation down here |

I haven't noticed a downturn, but I do save all I get- which is considerable since I live in Maine. Probably around 40-80 per $50 bag. |

| No shortage of canadian pennies here. Of course I live right on the border. I get close to a hundred per brinks box. I used to save the pre-97's but now I just roll them up with the zinc. |

| I'll start saving them again if you guys think there is a market for them. I live right on the border and get huge numbers of canadian coppers. Pre-97 is the cut off date, correct? |

I belive they have a higher percentage of copper, but they weigh less than LMC. Therefore they have less copper. I maybe wrong on this tho.... |

I keep all Canuk-A-Cents I find. I'm pretty close to Canada so I see a lot in CWR's. That's how I've found all my bearded Kings. I sort out the coated steel for my trips to the Great White North, Eh. I keep my Canuk-A-Cents separate from my Cu Lincolns. I also save any Canuk-A-Nickles (that don't stick to a magnet) I find. |

They're 98% copper for the most part, and there are 3 different weights- actually up to 1979 they weigh more than LMCs, so they're definitely worth keeping imo. |

Canadian coppers are 98% pure, but the weight varies by year because they kept reducing it to cut costs. 1996 is the last year of copper. 1997 and up are zinc. Since the weight varies by year the number of coins in a pound varies, but on average I have found there to be 162 - 165 coins in a pound.
If anybody accumulates enough to sell, send me a PM and I'll make an offer. I buy based on weight. |

| thanks guys for the info. I just always assumed since it was 98% copper and around the same size they had more copper but i see on slick's information above that they weigh more than LMC's from 79 back. But regardless i still keep them |

| Not sure why anybody would throw Canadian coppers back or mix them with the zinc and steel coins. The pre-97s are copper and that is what we are sorting for. Frankly, I'm not sure what to do with the zinc and steel coins. Anyway, I separate my Canadian coppers and roll them. I have almost a pound of it now. |

| When I go through and pick out the wheats I also pick out any George's I find but as far as the rest of them I just let my Ryedale sort out the copper Canadians and I roll them up with the Lincolns. In the future I will be selling rolls of copper bullion so I figure a few Canadians in the mix won't hurt anything. |
COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

The newer steel ones do stick to a magnet, but so do the .999 Ni keepers (pre-82). The non-magnetic nickels in between are only 25% nickel like the american ones. |

| This is a timely post. I've got about 800 foreign (mostly Canadian) cents sorted and I was wondering what to do with them. I get about 20 per box. Seems like there isn't much point in keeping the 1997+ ones. Thanks for the composition/weight info. |

| Can we create a separate forum section for foreign coins? I've got lots I'd like to look into more. I would post pics if needed. Something about the variety draws me, if not value. |
As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?
Possession is nine-tenths of the law.
When I give my two cents, they're always copper! |
