You might be able to raise the date out of it by soaking the coin in vinegar for three weeks. I restored the date on a slick buffalo nickel this way, but it discolored the metal into a blue-ish color.

I can see the "18" in the pic, I think maybe under 10x magnification, you might be able to see more. I'm guessing 1886.

This is a Liberty Nickel sometime referred to as a V Nickel because of the V on the back representing the number 5

They were made from 1883 to 1913
