I've been sorting on and off for about a month and have found i have close to $23 in cents I've noticed some of you seem to have thousands??

How long have you been sorting/collecting?(Did you start before '82?)
How many do you sort through a week/month?
How many do you have?
How many coppers would you need before you feel like you have enough?
Are you expecting the coppers to run out at some point?
I think when they finish with the changes after 2009 there going to start getting rid of all cents...what do you think?

Just some random questions from a newbie...some things people new to this might want to know..
Figured this was a good way to get people talking...Theres so many just copy pasted articles hard to know what this is really about

As far as coppers go, I only have about 1/2 a box that I sorted out of a full box I bought one day on a whim when I couldn't get nickels. It sorted about 57% I think. I've just bought a Ryedale coin artist, however, so I'm about to get into coppers in a big way, I think. I have lots of nickel and will keep adding to that haord as I can, but it's good to diversify, and with the coin artist doing both nickel and penny sorting, I should be able to pull a pile of both nickel and sweet Royal Canadian Mint copper.

Close to 20 years, when I first got married my wife and I would toss cents in a Rolling Rock "bucket of rocks", then moved to a large plastic Pepsi bottle, and now the 5 gallon water jug. I roll coppers as I accomeulate them.

How many do you sort through a week/month?
I only go through pocket change each day.

How many do you have?
$100 face copper in $25 boxes, 3/4 of a 5 gallon water jug of Zincolns.

How many coppers would you need before you feel like you have enough?
No limit, whatever I can get.

Are you expecting the coppers to run out at some point?
I am finding less and less already.

I have about 654,000 copper cents right now. I am shipping off 2 bags of wheat cents next week, so I better get busy sorting to keep my numbers up. I have been hoarding for 14 years and collecting for 42. I'm not sure if I will ever have enough (Could be a psychological thing about being a hoarder) Of course my girlfriend has a different opinion on this.. if you were to ask her she would tell you I already have more than enough. How long have you been sorting/collecting?
My parents started saving 1981 pennies when the Mint did the switch over. They figured it would be like the switch over form Wheat cents to Lincoln memorial cents, a market would develop. I took over when they lost interest.

How many do you sort through a week/month?
Not much really. I usually sort thorugh change I recieve from stores, though I might start getting rolls now that hte weather is improving.

How many do you have?
I'm too lazy to count up the dollar value, total weight, 34 pounds of copper cents.

How many coppers would you need before you feel like you have enough?
Until the supply nearly dries up and eBay sellers are offering pre 82 cents for .08¢ each, then I will sell.

Are you expecting the coppers to run out at some point?
I expect coppers to dry up, become scare, not run out completely. Wheat cents and the occasional Indian Head pop up now and then for sorters, so I would say that the supply will become scare but never completely dry up.

I think when they finish with the changes after 2009 there going to start getting rid of all cents...what do you think?

Hard to say. To get rid of small change is for the government to admit that inflation is worse than they say, something they will never want to do.
Also, getting rid of small change means getting rid of US Mint employees, something the government won't want to do either.

Getting close to completing my first $50 bag of coppers.

I can't imagine accomeulating over 10 bags($500), thus $500 is my goal by the end of 2007.

In addition, will have a nice collection of wheaties by that time also.

I now (about 2 weeks later) have about 5000 copper cents. I expect this number to climb dramitcally over the comming months and years, untill there is no more copper to be found in Canadian penny boxes. I need 15 million copper pennies to make my dream yacht.

Completed BAG #1 last evening.

Nine more to go.

The "wheaties" on the side are all gravy.

Been soooooooooo lazy that I have not even started on my second bag yet. Guess this is probably a problem many hoarders run into from time to time.

Asking myself, "is this really worth the time and effort"?

1.How long have you been sorting/collecting?(Did you start before '82?)
been saving pre 82's i got in change since 2002, only started sorting boxes 6 months or so ago

2.How many do you sort through a week/month?
as many as i can - right now only a box a week or so

3.How many do you have?
about $100 face copper, $5 face unsorted 1982's

4. How many coppers would you need before you feel like you have enough?
i will never have enough

5. Are you expecting the coppers to run out at some point?
i say within the next year we will see a considerable drop in pre 82's being found in circulation as more and more people catch on

6. I think when they finish with the changes after 2009 there going to start getting rid of all cents...what do you think?
i think our country will continue to mint cent coins, though hopefully out of something cheaper.

i enjoy sorting very much. i keep track of each boxes contents, zincs, coppers, wheats 1982's and canadians. i dont think i will get a machine for a while. maybe if i had more money to invest in cents it would make it worth it.
