Lately a lot of the fed boxes of halves have been short anywhere from $2-5. When I get a short box, I fill it before I turn it in.
The boxes are going right back to the fed which short changed the original roll. Am I obligated to fill them?
I wouldn't mind so much, but it is generally the skunk boxes that are short.

| I cashed in what Brinks said to be $500 in dimes. The counter at the bank got $487.50. That's ridiculous. I don't think Brinks could short a box 125 dimes. But next time I get them, I am not opening the rolls unless I see something interesting. I'm taking the whole thing to my dump bank and telling them what happened. |

You could choose to count before you leave, but I think you have to take the good with the bad. Its part of business IMO.
I have been shorted FYI also so I do feel for ya...

| I dont do much halves anymore but it's a bit annoying to find pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters in the rolls. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

| Oh and to answer your question, you should say something to your bank where you pick them up if it's going on continually. |

| I asked my bank about this and they told me they would be able to settle the shortage in house. |

I think that answers your question on how they got so short. |

I occasionally get shorted also. Normally I just consider it part of the game. The other day I picked up 31 CWR quarters and actually got 6 bonus quarters and an extra nickel.. sometimes you get long rolls too. One solution is to weigh the boxes or rolls at the teller station as you are accepting them. You can kick back any short boxes or rolls without accepting them. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I agree with taking the good with the bad, but lately some of the boxes have been up to $5 short. I mentioned it to the bank. They did reimburse me. I told them that that was not what I wanted. I wanted them to let Loomis know.
The last thing that I want is to become a pain in the backside for them. I could openthe boxes, weight the rolls and not open any that were short. Then I could turn in the short rolls to them once a month. What would you think of this idea? |

That is the good thing about pennies...I almost always come out ahead during the churn.
Those self serve automating coin counters eat coins. They either miss count them or they dump them into the "trash" bin and don't count them at all. I once was shorted over $12 on a box of halves. I made the teller look in the machine and they were all in the "trash" bin.
When I put in pennies I get them counted as dimes, nickels, and even dollars on a rare occasion. It all depends on how well the machine is being serviced. Sure I lose a few pennies to the "trash" bin, but I more than make up for it with with the bad counts.
