Jewelry parties (where the party guests bring jewelry instead of buy jewelry)
now has new twist,
A local company offers you a way to get cash in your hand or donate to your favorite charity without ever opening up you checkbook.
People can help their favorite charities (such as the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation) by holding Red Swan parties.
Red Swan buys old, unwanted jewelry. People can hold a party for their friends where they bring their old bracelets, necklaces or rings.
Partygoers are given boxes that they are asked to fill with their unwanted jewelry. The jewelry is appraised and the host gets a commission that can go to their favorite charity.
One of the guests brought jewelry she “was just going to throw it away” but thought it would be better to give it away than to throw it away. The ‘junk’ jewelry was appraised at over $500. 
(Now that is junk I wouldn‘t mind trash picking.)
At least the commission for the jewelry party is going towards charity so good, karma for all those involved.

So these clowns make a token donation to a charity, and get your, and your friends gold, and you get to organize it for him, deal with the people, Security issues for when people talk to the friends about your "gold parties", and for all this you get....
... a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
