Not sure if anyone had been doing this already with paper machine rolled coins. I take a pair of pliers and grab the end of the coin roll and kind of twist and pull, and I am left with a ring of paper in the pliers. I repeat with the other end and then the coins just roll right out of the paper. All the coins come out, you will never have a coin thrown away in the garbage, and you don't damage the coins. Just be careful not to contact the pliers to the end coin as you could scratch it up.

I actually do something similar, but with a small box-cutter (the kind where the blade snaps apart in sections). I slice each end "ring" right at the seam, stick my finger into the cut, and unroll it with a pull. About 50% of the time I can actually pull the end ring off with the box cutter.

I usually cut/tear the rings on a dozen rolls, setting each one in a pile as I do it, then go back and open the rolls.

Since I hand-sort, I've never liked "cracking" the rolls and sending coins all over the place.

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

Tried the pliers today. Works good. I used needle nose.

Another sure way to open a roll of pennies is to drop it on the floor.

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

I use my handy dandy automatic knife and slit the edges at the ends, then unroll. Works well and there's something satisfying about the knife snapping open!

Are you throwing that out?

I tried that when I dropped a whole box in my driveway. This will open your box AND several of your rolls as well. Then you have to chase them down your driveway.

It's much more efficient to drop an entire box of loose zincs in the bank parking lot on your way to use the change counter. You can entertain more people that way.

At least you dropped them in cardboard.
I learned the hard way with a 1/2 gallon Mason jar of loose pennies, talk about no fun!

There's profit if you melt things!!

A small screwdriver works best for me. I can unroll and keep all the coins in line for quicker sorting.

To each his own I guess.
