I stopped by my bank yesterday, located in a grocery store, and they had a box full of sealed 1988 penny rolls. No mint mark, but all of them are solid 1988. An elderly couple brought in $200 of pennies the other week. I bought some some of them. Managed to get $18 in sealed rolls with signs of yellowing on the paper. I can not see any date newer than 1989 on the ends of them. I am holding onto to those. Not sure if I should open them up and look for wheats or sell them off as is some day. The teller told me that the couple had been saving the pennies for years. Many years it looks like. I plan to go back this week and buy the remaining CWRs if they are still there. Are the '88 rolls going for a premium? I guess the mint marked ones are. I just saw Ebay completed auctions on them and they go for about a dime apiece if they have a mint-mark.

Why would you not buy them? 200.00 in pennies for 200.00........you have 200.00 either way and maybe something that will give you a nice return.
I never leave (unsearched) pennies at the bank if they have them to sell. I will only leave my sorted out zincs. |
You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

Most rolls go for a premium if they are truly uncirculated, and truly solid date rolls. If they're not solid date, uncirculated then I doubt they'd sell for much on eBay.
Personally, because I look for errors and varieties I would buy them and look for those things, but I probably wouldn't sell them as "BU rolls" (brilliant uncirculated) if they were customer rolled up because there are probably fingerprints and dirt spots present. |

Oh, the rolls were solid and sealed. There is no company name on the rolls from what I remember other the generic '50 cents' inking. The ones I looked at had some minor corrosion splotching on the ends. I trust they are the BU rolls that came out in 1988. The elderly couple probably bought coins for collection purposes or maybe just to have cash saved for rainy day? I bought the non-'88 sealed ones for the time-being. They are yellowed. Anyway, I was short the cash yesterday for the rest. The teller will be back later this week to open her vault. She said she would save them for me.The $10 of CWRs I bought from that hoard has produced maybe two wheats but I can see there are plenty of coppers. I think we are seeing the next wave of coins coming back to the bank for the paper cash. |

| Figure $3.00 to $6.00 per roll depending on the luster for uncirculated 1988 pennies.... |

I'm sure plenty of folks here would be interested in buying them off you for a profit. Heck, zincs are going for more than coppers right now. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |
