I did a small coin buy today and got a very worn coin. I tried to scan it and post a pic, but its so worn the scanner wont pick of the detail. So im going to try my best to desribe the coin to you.
Its copper in color and is just slighty bigger than a U.S 1/2 dollar.
The back of the coin is very worn down and all I can see is the letter R at the 1 o'clock position and the letter N at the 1:30-2 o'clock position. I can also see the number 0 at the 6 o'clock position and the number 8 at the 6:30-7 o'clock position. In the middle of the back of the coin is looks like a musical harp with a crown on the top of it. Besides for the numbers and letters the back looks exactly like a 1795 North Wales Halfpenny.
However when I flip the coin over to the front, the face on the coin Faces to the right. On the 1795 North Wales Halfpenny the face faces to the left...
When I look at the front of the coin I can see the letter D at the 2 o'clock position and the letter U at the 11 o'clock position. In the middle of the front There is a male (I think male) face looking to the right. The face on the front looks like a 1783 Georgivis Triumpho. I say that becuase the nose and the mouth and the neck line look very very similar to that coin. It also appears to have the outline of part of the bowtie thing in the hair...but that could be an outline of something else.
Im very confused because the front and back look like 2 differnt coins! I know this is going to probably be hard to figure out what this is but any help or thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Nope. I think it has to be the North Wales Halfpenny except just a differnt year. The back harp and crown look identical...just the numbers and letters on the back dont. |

Not sure if it means anything but the harp is usually a symbol for Ireland, and another name for Ireland is "HIBERNIA" which, if that were on the reverse, would have the letters "RN" in order. |
