| I wonder if unplugging the machine is considered tampering and follows with a criminal charge. Hmmmm... |
As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

| I know everyone says don't use Coin Star but it is hard around where I live to find a bank that has a coin counter. Finally found a WF where I get pennies but Friday, the coin counter was gone a nice area was all fixed up to sit and drink coffee while waiting for whatever. The nice gentleman said they moved it to the back and you have to have an account or pay a fee. So I went back to Coin Star. I get e-certificates to Lowe's since we are doing some remodeling and no fee for as many as you want. Sort of slow but free that way. Bought my new washer and dryer Saturday with my e-certificates. A nice young man walked up while my pennies where clinking on and on and ask how the machines worked. He had a couple of small little bags with pennies in one and nickel and dimes in one. I explained the fees and he really didn't want to pay a fee duh. I told him to put them through and get a e-cert. for Lowes and would give him the money and he wouldn't have a fee. Didn't want to stand there counting money but I should have. After all the coins were counted, cert. traded, I reminded him to check the little box where coins fall out sometimes. Sure enough there was a few dimes and he just handed them to me. Six 1940's dimes. Boy was I surprised. I sure should have offered to count those bags for him. A nice surprise. Probably with open an account with WF just for the counting and buying. |

| I see someone dumping and I typically will offer to buy what they have. Done quite well that way. |

How do you figure out what to offer? Or do they frequently already know the total? I'd worry about over or under paying. |

| BofA told me to please not bring in more than $100(rolled) per day, which is OK but sometimes they don't care. |

I usually cart in and dump anywhere from 8-12 coin lock bags (approx $60 in ea bag) at any given B of A branch twice weekly. Why spend all that time to roll? |
The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities. |

I wish I could use the bags but they want to charge me $3 per bag. |

I know no shame:
1) $200/bank where they have to feed the machine in the back room. $50 bags x 4 bags....that is about all i can carry in the place in one trip.
2) $800 into the lobby ScanCoin machine.....I go in with my MP3 player and listen to Jim Puplava for about 2 hours and dump away.
Last time at the lobby machine I smoked it's motor.....it went into thermal protection shut-down mode.....it seems that it is not made for 100% duty cycle for 2 hours....the bank smelled like burnt wires..... |

It doesn't take all that much time to roll if you have the right machines.
I used to cart in 12 bags at a time to my local BofA branch, but when I did it 6 days in a row they cut me off.. imagine that. This is when I came to the realization that I needed to spread my dumps out a bit more. Now I just dump a couple of bags at a time at the BofA branch near work and no more than 8 boxes at a time of rolled pennies to several other banks. Those banks really like my machine rolled pennies, but I don't want to overload any one branch, so I spread my action across many banks and branches. The other advantage of having rolled coin is that you can swap it for unsearched boxes at some branches. I learned this little trick from C140cessna a while back. One Wells Fargo near work regularly swaps me 6-8 boxes at a time.
A dump at any one of my banks only takes about 5 minutes. Sure beats standing in front of a lobby coin counter feeding it for a couple of hours.
Matlock.. try checking with other BofA branches in your area. Policies vary from branch to branch with that bank. The one across town from me will take my precounted bagged coin but will not credit my account until the count is verified. The one near work credits my account instantly or just pays me out in cash. Are your bags precounted or are they trying to charge the $3 fee because it is loose and uncounted? |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I need to return about 200 to 400 in pennies. I have one bank that is very receptive and never really complains when i bring 200+ in a session, though it does work best if I bring the returns in 2 segments. I recently found another local bank that has a cummins in the lobby. it processed $350 in about 45 minutes, though it did require the bags to be changed multiple times. I'd go there but the manager after that one day set a limit to 150 though i'll keep it between that and 200.
BoA recently gave me the sealable return bags and said don't roll them anymore just fill these bags and they'd take as many as i can fill. The only problem is i don't have a counter, so i'm not really excited about the leg work i'll need to do to get the coins counted. I'm ready to just weigh them, but that's not 100% accurate.
I'd also return coins by work but no banks near there have coin machines...

I wouldn't call what I do as dumping. It's more of an exchange or swapping out of rolls.
The last time at the bank I had 24 rolls of pennies and it took three tellers and finally the third had to walk to the drive-in tellers to be able to swap those out for me.
Occasionally, they have not had any and I have had to take FRNs and then go to another branch to get my rolls of pennies. It seems I am their largest user of rolled pennies (bags are NOT available) and I usually only swap out once a week.
Enjoy. |

| I knew a bank that would do that for my half dollar dumps. The teller would have to take my coins to another part of the bank before being able to give me $$. So difficult... |
