I was going through a bank box($25.00 value) and along with the 5 or 6 canadians coins i found a coin from guatemala...

It says Republic de Guatemala 1979 on the back
and Fray bartolome de las casa UN CENTAVO on the front..

I've looked everywhere trying to find value of composition and haven't been able to find anything...do any of you know if this is worth anything or what the composition is
Do i throw it in with my coppers...return it with my zincs...or put it in the glass sealed jar with my wheats?

LOOKS LIKE THIS...just different year

i found the composition of this coin is brass but cant find the exact percentage of copper and zinc. it would be nice to have a site that showed exact compositions of foreign coins but maybe some of that information isnt known.
i have a lot of coins from switzerland and the netherlands etc. that list a composition of nickel but i dont know how much or if theyre worth saving.
as far as your guatemalan coin i would just save it as for the fact of how you found it.

Save it just in case you ever decide to bug out to Guatemala.

Coins from other countries interest me too.
I bought a bulk of about 20 pounds of foriegn coins from a local dealer for $2 per pound.

There was an enormous variety of coins in there, at least 30 nations.

My general strategy about these things is that I do NOT sort.
I also do NOT mix.

I keep what I've bought separated by the "buys".
I ONLY mix when I know what I'm doing.
I ONLY sort when I feel like there isn't enough useful work for me to do, ie. never.

I keep things that are already sorted in that condition.

When the time comes, I will sort, but by then, here is the crucial part that I hope you all understand,
I WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT RELATIVE VALUES IN THE FUTURE THAN I HAVE NOW.
When I have this additional information, my sorting will be more valuable, Right now, what's the point, really?

Sorry for the all caps rant, but I think this point of view gets glossed over too often.

As for my 20 pounds of foriegn coins, I plan to sort them someday, but right now I don't have any incentive to sort them, primarily because I don't have any information that causes me to think that they are worth sorting.

My great grandchildren may have that incentive, but I don't, ... my incentive is to plunk down $40 and stuff a bag of "junk" coins in the basement. If my great grandchildren beneifit, good, if they don't, I've only lost $40.

peace, AND love
