I stopped at a CU today to see if I could pick up some pennies. My regular bank is supposed to be saving CWR pennies for me but had only $2.50 worth...WOW.... Well the CU didn't have boxes but one teller had $50.00 CWR. I said I'll take them. As she went to get a bag I scanned her quartes and dimes. Got a 1953 dime. So I thought this is my day. Got home and started dumping rolls in to the Ryedale. I kept pulling out pennies that were stuck/ super glued together. Did this about 10-12 times. One time there where 3 stuck together. There was also one zinc that was cut and bent. And the Ryedale jamed with almost every roll. Man was I irritated. After I finally got through the mess I reran the coppers cause I knew I was dropping everything in the bucket clearing the jams. I found a 1943 "steel" penny. There are coppers in the zinc bucket I am sure but I am ready to "dump" these suckers. 1 Silver Dime and 1 Steel penny for my troubles. Was it worth it? I don't know. Gonna search the coppers tommorrow for wheats after I get a good nights sleep to let the fustration fade away.

| I don't own a Ryedale, but maybe this could help out a bit. Do you folks open the penny rolls and do a quick search for wheat pennies by naked eye inspection? It adds some time to the sort, but you would avoid the machine sending the wheat-backs into the zinc pile. |

When I don't get bags, I do a quick check of the rolls looking for bent, sticky, glued, wrong denomination, etc. I do not sort for wheats. Trash (zinc) pile and a pile with everything. All depends on the target coin, and your machine settings on what goes in what pile. Works out well for me.

| I have a zinc in my Ryedale so it accepts zinc and rejects everything else. That is why the steel was in the copper bucket. I put the coppers (rejects)in a penny box after the Ryedale sorts them. I go through them later at my leisure to get out the wheats and canadians and whatever else was rejected. I guess the 1919 and 1916 wheats were the "finds" in this batch. Usually a beat up/ chewed up zinc is in the pile. When I am done the final sort goes into a 5 Gal bucket w/ a lid. |
