I'm new to the forum, came over from silverseek.com and find any kind of bullion interesting.
Is there a movement to melt copper pennies for bullion?
I've got coffee cans full of them, and I would hate to just roll them up and get FRN for them, unless I can immediately buy silver or something with the funds.
Any suggestions..

| Besides from the fact that it's illegal at the time, no, there is no movement that I know of. |

You treat them just like you would silver coins. They trade based on a multiple of face. Right now that multiple is quite low.. just like silver coins. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

| Hoard as many as you can. Someday it will not be illegal to melt them and they may very well be worth $erious money. |

| It would be as pointless as melting Franklin halves or Silver Eagles - metal is always worth just a tad more in coin form. |

I'm pretty sure millions of Franklin's, as well as most other varieties of "junk" silver are/were melted on a regular basis. As far as pennies, why would you melt them? You can trade them here for something probably, or, like a lot of us just keep putting them away....
