Some good info for those new to owning a firearm for home defense.

I can't agree with the 2 last paragraphs though.

You must be logged in to see this link.

The first would get you on a government blacklist if not arrested for threatening an officer, or disorderly conduct.

The last would be a litigious nightmare if you implemented his suggestion versus calling 9-1-1. At least at this point and time. When the infrastructure starts to really fall apart, then it would be a good idea.

there is a copyright notice at the end of the article. therefore, you should only post an excerpt - that is fair use. to post the entire article violates lew rockwell's copyright, and could get realcent in trouble.

Thanks for the heads-up, Lemon Thrower. I'm fixing the problem.

Good article and thanks for sharing the link. Some of the stuff is excellent advice, but one I thought as being a bit overboard was:

"I, personally, have a firearm and ammo discretely located in each room of my home so as to never be isolated from either should the need arise."

The house I live in has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, finished basement, laundry room, and garage. It would not be practical for me to own 12 total firearms (I think 3 is enough...lol). I understand what he is saying about needing to have quick access if the situation arises though. Some people keep their only firearm in the drawer of their nightstand but what if you are in the living room and someone beats down your front door and smashes your sliding patio door? Ruh roh...

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Nothing wrong with spreading the tools of self defence around the house. I'm not saying you need an individual weapon in every room, just a few spread out. To solve that problem, just carry at all times, yep even at home. I actually just had to replace my computer chair because I wore a hole in it right at the waist line. There is an indention in my truck seat as well. Imagine that.... Call me what you want, but I'm ALWAYS armed. Too many crazies out there for me not to be. I must say though, three firearms is a good start. More than a lot of people have. As long as you have plenty of ammo.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

I can see where having a firearm in every room could be a financial challenge. I can also see it being a serious safety challenge if you have small children.

Deal's suggestion is a good one. Even if you don't have a CCW, you can "carry" in your own home.

I used to collect guns, and still have a small collection. So it isn't a problem for me to have at least 1 firearm in every room. If it isn't a handgun it is a shotgun or rifle, and they are all loaded.

I see no problem with that. I have one in my night stand, although it's not loaded (its a 40 S&W with the mag right next to it) and the other in my office (.357 Mag not loaded either but easy to access, and with two loaded speed loaders right next to it).

We have two cats who climb all over everything, so although it's unlikely for them to do so, I dont want to take a chance that they somehow knock the gun onto the floor causing it to fire or anything like that happening. We also have 3 large dogs, so I count on them as my eyes and ears (one is part shepherd and is always on alert).

I am still thinking about adding one more to the arsenal though, and that would be a 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.
