2 $500 NF String Boxes:
Skunk and Skunk
On a different note: The gas and beer store 2 blocks from the office has a penny tray that I've pawed thru so many times over the last few years the cashiers know me as "The (Crazy?) Coin Guy". One nice cashier actually saves Wheat Pennies for me (1937 S XF is the best so far). She asked me if I wanted an old forgein coin today. "Why sure!", sez I. It was a pretty worn 1893 V Nickle. The face was OK, the back was mighty slick, but you could see the V. She gave it to me because it was "a worthless forgien coin". I told her what it was and she still gave it to me. Nice cashier!

Got four boxes of halves plus pennies and nickels today ordered for last week while I was traveling.
Box one and four skunk. Nasty too.
Box two had two 40%, one with a complimentary hole which was in the head as usual.
Box three waited till the last few rolls to produce 5 40% and one nice 43' Walker.
Although not much of a score, I just love Walkers. One of my all time favorite coins.
I marvel at the tenacious dime sorters who are happy with a dime or two. (I haven't found silver in a dime box since I was 7 years old)
I still have the pennies and nickels to go. I have just got out the buffalo folders for the first time since childhood. Had fun filling holes from two books I had waiting. I had only 3 1/2 tubes and one of those had no dates.
I find bufs to be the hardest to collect.
I have two nearly complete V nickel books I colleted in the same time frame. (48 years)
I hope to get 2-4 more boxes this week. maybe I can find the companion to the box that had the Walker.

Bag o' quarters...Trying to cash in on the Copper Monday phenomenon. '56 & '57. 3,998 Clads. I beat my previous record of 1 by 100% I think I'm finally over searching quarters. |

It doesn't take much to make some of us happy. Halves are hard to get, hard to return, and pretty much picked over in my area. Dimes are easy to get, fast to sort, and easy to return.. and because most folks are hunting halves, the occasional silver does show up. I got 64 silvers in a batch I did last week.. and the base price was less than a box of halves. I sometimes sort the dimes, drop them in one of the automatic rolling machines, and dump them at another bank all on the same day.. never tying up much capital for very long. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

2 boxes halves:
1-44' Walker 1-62' Franklin 11-40% 1-NIFC 2006
Two of the 1967 halves were BU or near as I can tell, minty!
There were a lot of 96', 97' and 98's in the mix with that just dumped from a mint bag look and all the telltale fine obverse scratches. The reverses of said coins were magnificent. I would love to hear a good explanation for these fine scratches as they don't seem to be from being bag-handled. The reverses don't have the fine scratches. The scratches are in the background field only. The faces have low to moderate friction scrapes on high points. Most of what I find from these three years and also 1995 I think have this trait.

Five silvers is great for $200!
And Farmall sure made a killing! Customer wrapped rolls guys?
Well,
Last two boxes of halves today for the week.
Box 1- Skunk!
Box 2- I am pretty sure this was a sister to one of the boxes from my last pair which had some brilliant 1967's Different banks but same service (Loomis)
33- 40% with mostly brilliant 1967's 1- 1964
Nothing else but those BU finely scratched obverse clads from the later 90's (95'-98')
Love to tie into a bunch of 1999's someday. A much less common and totally different animal.
Of course silver is king and would love to see rolls of those. Never have though.
Got some pennies and nickels for the weekend.

Yes they were CWR's. They said they had 6 more rolls but the lady that had them in her drawer was gone today. I'll be there first thing tomorrow.
I think I bought someones copper stash. I bought 2 $25.00 boxes. One has red wrappers on the and other are striped wrappers. The striped wrappers are all 100% copper..... I'll be back for more of those as well. |
