Going to try to buy up the rest of the rolls from the bank that had the 40% tomorrow.

I keep all NIFCs from 2002 to date. These are all low mintage halves. I just found 10-2009P halves and I am keeping them. |

Finally got my first mini treasure box! Was picking up pennies at a seldom-stopped-at bank for me, and asked for halves like I always do (usually getting a polite "no", or "we have 1 or 2"), and today another teller yelled out "we have "$20 in the vault"...I asked for those (they were CWR), and when I opened the first one at home it revealed nothing but 40%ers! The second roll had 4 more 40%ers and 2 90%ers! I finally understand how you guys feel when you bust open a full box and find multiples. What a rush! |

The Mint suspended mint marks during '65, '66, & '67 to 'discourage hoarding' (presumably people would only 'hoard' one instead of several (?)). All 40% halves minted when mintmarks were present were minted in Denver. Does anyone know if the (circulation strike) '65, '66, & '67 halves were actually minted in Philadelphia, Denver, or both? To me, Denver seems more likely.

I'll have to check more of my 40 %'ers of those years. I think I have some with D mint marks, but now your making me wonder...
On a different note:
A teller from one of the local banks I regularly bother for Halves noticed me having lunch and came up to tell me he just got 20 loose Halves in since yesterday. Long story short: 2 '64 (1 "P" & 1 "D")

I've looked at 10 rolls of 40 %'ers today, no "D" mint marks on anything before '68. Thanks for learning me something Jefferson!

have been shelling rolls of Linc's and niks all weekend.
I have finished the pennies and have started on the nickels, maybe half way thru.
So far fifty wheats and lots of shiny unscratched coins. Perhaps circulated but hard to tell. Two pretty nice non-centered strikes.
The pennies were a nice time capsule for nearly uncirculated stuff from the fifties forward. Nothing older than 1939 but a pleasure.
At least a couple 1960 small dates (D too)
So far I have a 1923 buff and a couple war niks and I save anything thru 1963 to sort and compare later.
I keep tubes of lots of nickel catagories and sort best grade finds after sorting awhile.
I have 250 tubes of best pennies with at least two tubes for each year. I don't have full tube in the teens eccept 1918, 1919 and maybe 1917 and 1916.
Coins in milk crates are heavy.
Just a snapshot.

N. F. String & Sons is a coin handeling company, that counts and wraps loose coin for financial institutions, like Brinks. They will provide their service to many institutions around my neck of the woods. |

$689 Halves - $680.50 CWRs + $8.50 Teller Loose halves
Went to my dump bank today and picked up $100 in 2009-P Guam quarters and two rolls of LP1 2009-P pennies. Between shopping with my wife, I stopped at a few banks, but the best bank was a dump bank I used in the Spring to dump rolls that I had wrapped myself. They had 68 rolls of halves and $7 loose halves. First teller had the loose halves. I took a real good look and they looked all silver. Yup, there were 14 40%ers. Next teller went into the vault and brought out 68 more rolls of halves for me. "We're glad to get rid of these." I said, "I'm more than happy to take them off your hands." Got the halves home. $400 worth of these were my old CWRs that I dumped in March and April. However, the other 28 rolls were not mine. Hmmm, I already got 14 silvers from Teller #1 - maybe there's more. Yup, 3 solid rolls of silver were in the 28 rolls of halves. Two rolls had 21 silvers in them. Each solid roll had one 1964 Kennedy in it. Total haul for this bank was 73-40%ers and 3-1964s.
Bank #1 ($1.50 loose) Skunk
Bank #2 ($680.50 CWRs + $7 loose) 3 Kennedy 90% - '64(3) 73 Kennedy 40% Clad - '65(2),'66(16),'67(23),'68D(21),'69D(11)

My standing order wasn't available today (the vault tell er took a vacation and she orders the coin) so I went to my dump bank and asked if they had any CWR's. 1 CWR:
1 '10 Edward VII (Contender for the slickest Eddy VII)
1 '49 Franklin 1 '51 Franklin 1 '53 Franklin 1 '54 Franklin
1 '64 Kennedy
Probably better than I'd have done if I'd gotten my order! |

You have really been cleaning house lately with the Ag halves. That's awesome. I will freely admit I am a bit envious.

Thanks for the kind words. It's been a good silver month for me. I guess I've been lucky.
I think the smartest thing I did was to get halves from my Brinks source bank and dump the halves in a Dunbar bank. I never dump in a Brinks bank. |
