That didn't take to long to complete, with a couple of weeks to go in the year I'm at a little over 300 lbs.
I have a roll of Canadian pennies for each year starting from 1953 -1967. and have found 168 wheaties including 3 1909 VDB's (all in the same roll) and 9 George the 5ths .
Concentrating more on pre 82 Canadian nickels right now before they all disappear from circulation.
Congrats on achieving your goal quite quickly. Super congrats on finding that many wheats so quickly in Canada and especially for finding the 1909 VDBs! None that old yet for me, but I can continue to hope. Hope, as well, for finding an IH penny.
Nice going on the George Vs too. What was the earliest?
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |

Anyone else care to comment on their 2009 goals--achieved or not???
I've been thinking about a possible goal for 2010. Perhaps, even two goals.
How about the rest of you? Maybe we need to start something in the Member's Only section for 2010 and make it a Sticky so we can find it easily??? (Hint, hint, hint)
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |

Here was my original goals listed on page 1

In addition to the above, I would like to have: A roll of 1960-D small date A roll of each year 1968 - 1974 all S-Mints (the 1968's will be very difficult) A roll of each of the 7 varieties of 1982 One Indian Head 2500 more Wheaties
I did complete a BU roll of every copper memorial year 59'-82' P & D Mints I do not have a roll of 1960-D small dates (less than 10) I am short on the S-mint rolls, only about 25 68's and around 40 69's through 74's I do have a roll of 6 of the 7 82' varieties, I am short on the 1982-D-Zinc-Large dates Did not find an IH this year Only found around 800 wheaties this year |

Regarding "seven varieties of 82s":
2 mintmark varieties (none and "D") 2 date varieties (large and small "8") 2 compositions (Cu and Zn) 2 cubed = 8 - 1...there were no copper small dates made in Denver.
But there were actually 8 varieties...the eighth is the copper 1982-S, produced only for proof sets. If you find any 1975 or newer S-mint pennies in circulation in your sorting, consider yourself lucky; they were all issued as proofs.

Good to hear from some of your regarding this current year's goals. Great going on achieving some or all of your goals. Even if they were not all achieved, just making an attempt is very admirable.
I am really impressed at some of the goals that were reached. I am keeping my 1960 D pennies separate, as well as the 1970 S pennies in hopes of finding the good ones. But my eyes are so bad, I truly doubt I could tell which variety I am looking at trying to sort them out.
Anyone else care to report in???

I came very close to completing my 2009 goals but fell a little short. Completed Whitman penny book except for 1909 - 1918 all mint marks. Second goal was to put togather a proof quarter collection from 1965 to present, got four!! failed miserably on that. Third I wanted to accumulate 7 oz of silver origionally 15 but hard times made me come back down on that.
I think we need to 2010 goals not only for ourselves but also so we may be able to help each other out.
Good luck with your 2010 goals!! |

My goal is to keep healthy so I fill like sorting by hand. And of course to find those treasures out there. My wish is that our military is as safe as possible, and that are government lets them fight to win.
Gun control is using both hands. |

Well it took till the last 15 minutes of the year, but I finally pushed all of the pennies that that I had hand sorted through the Rydale to get out the zinc 82's and the counter
1.) Double the size of my penny hoard- not sure what exactly what I started but I believe ahcieved 2.) Get a counter so I know how much that actually is - got a nice Mach 3 on craigslist for a hundred bucks and payed for it by selling a box of LP1's on ebay 3.) Add 100 dollars of silver collected for face value- close but the only one not achieved, but I did get close to $20 in liberty and Franklin halves 4.) Find 5 Indian Heads- finished the year with 7 5.) Get a ryedale or similar type comparitor- got a ryedale
I think I achieved all of them but #3 |

Wow. This means you searched 2,409,000 pennies in 2009, and found one wheatie for every 338 cents searched. If you are averaging 25% copper in your area that means only about one out of 84 coppers are wheaties, less than one percent |
Hoard now and hold on!

Copper % here is 19.6%. I did not include boxes of new 09's (over 50), which were not searched nor original rolls of copper pennies which added up to a little over 3 boxes. Also found 15 IH's. No goals for 2010! |

I had two goals:
Add 500 lbs of copper to my hoard- I easily did this Add 100 oz of silver- My silver is no accessible at this time and I do not know where I stand. My best estimate is that I added about 50 oz.

Here's my 2009 goals:
quote:
1. Get my Glory Coin Wrapper working for the 1st time 2. Find at least 1 - 1909 Penny 3. Find at least 1 Indian 4. Get at least 2 boxes of each of the new 2009 Lincoln cent designs 5. Find at least $5 of silver at face value
Most of these were all failures mainly due to all spare time at work due to short staff.
1. Never even plugged it in. 2. Still have several boxes from 2008 & 2009 that haven't been searched. 3. No luck, and now the 2nd year in a row with no indian finds. 4. Never got any at here in Indy, but not because I didn't try. I also tried at my credit union in Fort Worth during vacation, but they only had 2 rolls of any pennies at the entire branch. I took them. 5. Found $1.10 face of silver in 2009. Skunked on 2 boxes of halves.
Was able to attend and get several rolls of the first releases of the LP2 & LP3. Also met a few of the great members of this forum at both Lincoln City, IN and Springfield, IL. |
