i started then gave up last year. but for some reason, i would like to make up a 'collection' consisting of a roll from each year , and mm. from 59 to 81. i think it might be impossible but will try anyway.

why impossible...... how many 65,66,67 d's have you found last year. in the last 60k , since i started looking for them. i have yet to find one.

i do not get into the 7 variestes of 82,

i would like to get the remaining steelie i do not have.

dream time..... a 1909.

how about, finishing out book 1. 1909-1940.. yeah right. lol.

as of now, the plan is, to head to central minnesota for the summer.
only two banks in the town. sooo, will see what coin availability is. flip side. maybe i will encounter that elusive, 20% cu that to date i have not broken.

I've been contemplating my goals for 2009 as well. I think that I am going to go for a few difficult ones....hey if goals were easy you wouldn't have to strive to get them. You must be logged in to see this link. has most of the books that I want to complete. I think the new COMPLETE Lincoln bicentennial book would be a great thing to complete. I've never liked how they had separated the years. If it was me I would do the whole wheat series, then on to memorial cents. But this one seems to include them all. I would like to see it to see what varieties are included. But yeah do that book, make a Lincoln penny portrait out of zincs, and complete a few of their hard case display flips with the new 2009 designs and the war penny plastic container Has a picture of a P-40 behind it, really cool.

Outside of pennies I want to finish a few of the deluxe state quarter books, help my dad sort through all his change jars to do this too. And be able to start sorting halves and other varieties for Silver so that I can aggressively dollar cost average down so that I can make profits quicker.

I don't know, but someone on the board sold me 4 brown boxes used to hold half tubes. And ever since then it's annoying the heck out of me to see an empty tube. =/ Mine goal is to get another 280 in just halves to fill another box up. maybe two.

Trolling is an art.

I put away 500# of copper in 2008. My goal for 2009 is to do at least the same amount. I would do more, except that I have trouble getting rid of the zinc and really can't take much more out of the household income in a year's time.

I'm pretty new to this coin stuff but I looked in my Blue Book and for small cents it only lists 1965, 1966, and 1967 with no breakdown for various mintmarks. So your goal may very well be a possibility.

My problem in trying to complete all mint marks for all years is that I can't ever get any S mintmarks newer than 1974.

My goal is probably modest for the majority of you but huge for me and I want to be able to reach 500 wheat cents this year--found through searching and not by purchase. I am less than half way to that goal at the start of this new year.

Success to everyone in your personal goals.

As for the copper, maybe I'll cut back some more.

I've been thinking about the penny box idea too. How would be the best way to go about this? All the banks in my area are supplied by brinks but I am close enough to St. Louis to go to a fed bank. Would going straight to a Fed bank be the best way to ensure solid rolls and mintmarks?

i bought a de la rue coin counter off ebay for $150 in 2008 - this is similar to the CS-10 that is more common. makes filling up dump bag fast. a counter, a cart, and a good dump bank are a lot better and cheaper than a wrapping machine.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

Ask your bank if they can get the new pennies. I've not had a problem getting much of anything I request from my credit union or bank (Presidential Dollar Coins, $2 bills, bricks of $1 bills (1000), etc..

I have already started a goal similar to cwgii, its one roll from each year 1959-2008 P&D mints. I only cherry pick the best coins to be included in these rolls.

In addition to the above, I would like to have:
A roll of 1960-D small date
A roll of each year 1968 - 1974 all S-Mints (the 1968's will be very difficult)
A roll of each of the 7 varieties of 1982
One Indian Head
2500 more Wheaties

I would like to see one of the alleged elusive Feathered Libertys in the wild. It is too much to hope to capture one. Just seeing one would be enough.

"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

I save all the "S" mints I find as well. The 1968-S has been tough, but not as I thought it would be. When I do find them, they usually still have at least part of the mint luster remaining.

The 1982's are fun--until you have few of the small date zinc "D". I cheated last year and purchased a couple of bags of 82's.

I started a roll for each date a couple of years ago. That was pretty easy. Now I have a box goal (of each date, not mint marks) that I started last year and am still working on. Six dates are lacking. A tackle box from Walmart is great to keep the mint marks and dates separate.

marklarpants, it'd be nearly impossible to fill a 1909-1940 book by hand sorting. The 1941 - 1958 book you could fill several times over with the exception of finding the 1943 steel cents. Most bank coin counters have a magnet on them so the 1943's have been nearly pulled from circulation.

Although I have traded for many cents on here, I have filled one up with coins that I pulled from circulation. I was just lacking the obvious coins. ('09 S V.D.B., '09 S, '14 D, and '31 S). Not too bad. I have pulled several of each mint mark of '43's from circulation. Usually from CWR's. You would be surprised on the number of poor quality machines out there that miss all kinds of goodies.

My goal is to be at about 75,000 - 100,000 copper cents hoard by the end of 2009. I'm only in the 37K range at the moment so I have a ways to go. My copper goals are modest compared to some of the hard core people here.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Bumping this topic up to see how many of you achieved your goals for this hobby.

I stated that my goal was to reach 500 wheat cents this year by finding them through searches, not purchases.

I DID reach this goal as I am over 550 now.

I know that is small time for most of you, but a huge achievement for me.

How did anyone else do towards their goals???

I started sorting copper in August of this year and had set a goal of 100 lbs.

That didn't take to long to complete, with a couple of weeks to go in the year I'm at a little over 300 lbs.

I have a roll of Canadian pennies for each year starting from 1953 -1967.
and have found 168 wheaties including 3 1909 VDB's (all in the same roll)
and 9 George the 5ths .

Concentrating more on pre 82 Canadian nickels right now before they all disappear from circulation.
