you should tare your scale.

place the empty container on the scale then hit the tare button to zero out the weight of the container.

then fill it with 500 coins and weigh.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

like i said , learning curve. found out about the tare , after.

but..... if you always use the same pan. it makes the numbers still valid. . also learning the counter. , IIIIII counted out 50 and put them in the tube. so as to know if the machine screwed up again.

while it is an aide. i would never trust the machine to be accurate.

Hi! New guy here. First, thanks all for the time-saving info! Good input here!
cwgii- Could I ask what scale you are using? Many scales are specifically built for counting many small parts. Other scales just measure weight, let you do the math, but are not counting scales. You need better than 2% accuracy- 1% preferred to accurately count 50 3.11 gram coins.

Being that I know a little about scales. There will be some variance, depending where you placed your coins on the scale, and the distribution of the weight on the load cell.

A counting scale would be a better scale for this measurement.

jwax, welcome. Any input you have would be much appreciated. Post well and post often.

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Thanks Deal! I just hand sorted 11 pounds of accumulated pennies over the years. 33% yield of coppers, and 7 Wheaties. I learned, hand sorting sucks. Time to get mechanized, then it's off to the bank for more!
