Checking coinflation.com, I see that a silver half dollar weighs approx. 1 gram more than a post 1970 one. Crazy as it might be, imagine sorting out the heavier $10 rolls and just setting them aside for some later day of opening. Oh the fun that could be had.
LOL you are forgetting the wear that comes off of the coins. What if you got a roll of pure silver that was all worn down and you just put it aside becuase it didnt weight enough! Its SUPER EASY to just look at the side of the coins....so take the 10 seconds to open the roll and look : )
Well, you could do a relative weight sorting, -ie- separate the heaviest rolls and lightest rolls. OK, creative loafing over. The wife will be home soon and we have a few boxes to sort. Meanwhile, I saw this link on another blog:
What if a roll was all 90% silver but short one coin? Some of us do that weight sorting right before opening. Most of us can only afford to buy a few boxes of halves at a time though. We need to sort them quickly so we can turn them back into the bank to free up capital to buy more boxes of half dollars. We can't let those unsorted boxes of halves pile up. Imagine a stack of weighed boxes of half dollars like horgad's stack of unsorted pennies.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
