I have sorted through about 6 boxes of dimes in the last week. Here are the results:
1. skunk
2. 2 roos
3. 1 roos
4. 3 roos (record for me but record broke by 6th box)
5. skunk
6. 7 roos (record for me for number of silver dimes per box)

Box number 6 was great. I rarely get more than two silver dimes per box. When I got box number 4, and got three silver dimes, at that time 3 was a record for me. I couldn't remember which of two banks I got the 3 dime box from so I went and bought a box from both. Of course going back to the bank that gave me the 7 dime box and getting another box is not 100% indicative that the new box will be a good one. Nevertheless, when you get better than average results, its possible that the box with the good results might be in the middle of a trend.

I'm currenly on the 7th box in this run and its looking like a skunk. 35 rolls in...0 silver.

Happy sortin'.

I avg about 1.5 90% dimes per box. I only sort those now when I can't get 1/2's....

Means you run good with dimes IMO.

I mainly buy dimes now. :)

I didn't realize the odds were as good as that. I sorted exactly 1 box of dimes ever, and got 1 roos. It just occurred to me that since I can't do as many halves as I used to (loss of dump access) I may just take up doing dimes again. I've been doing 3-4 boxes of nickels a week, I could easily swap a box of nickels for a box of dimes.

Dimes aren't bad, they are probably the easiest to sort also. Takes me about 25min to go through a box.

I should mention that this kind of luck if just that.....luck. I have went through as many as four boxes in a row with all of them being skunks. I am sorting dimes instead of halves because (1) I can't get any halves until wednesday, and (2) my area has mostly dumpage for halves when ordering them.

Here is a question for you all. Do coin counters reject silver dimes? I am not about to test out my bank's counter on that (hey, it takes me a while to actually find a silver dime in the wild now). If counters reject the silver dimes, a super-lazy persons way to sort dimes is just to order boxes of dimes and open them up and dump them into a counter and wait for the silver to get rejected. I said super lazy person mind you. I almost missed a silver dime a few weeks back because I did not see the silvery edge of it in the roll. As I checked dates, I found the 1964 finally. It took a while to find that dime. The work involved to search dimes is not as well rewarded as the search for nickels, pennies or halves IMHO.I do like finding silver dimes though.

I got 2 out of 4 boxes today- 49S filled a spot in my book, now I only need 12 more. Once I got 12 boxes on Thursday and 24 boxes on Saturday. Got over a roll out of that bunch with 6 coming from the best box- my record. I get dimes on Sunday from my dump bank sos I can flirt with the tellers and give them candy LOL. HH Mark

Well, I went back to the bank that I bought the 7 roos box from with the hopes of getting another good box. They only had brinks boxes so I went to another bank. On the bottom of the non-brinks boxes there is a date and a number of the inspector. Its reasonable to think that if you got a 7 roos box from a box inpected by #4142 on Nov 24, that if you could get back to the bank in time to get another box by inspected by #4142 on Nov 24, that it might pay off. I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for but I did get 1 box dated Nov 24 and another dated Nov 28. I also got 2 boxes both dated Feb 29, 2008. I'm goin' in.

A guy at work brought in his Alhambra bottle of change today to convert to fiat for Xmas. It was maybe 1/4th full. Took the Mach 7 all of about 40 seconds to count.. $284.54.

$54 of that was dimes. I found one silver Roosie in that. Put it in my pocket. Then it fell out of my pocket in the parking lot when I pulled my keys out. It was dark out there.. I thought I had lost it.. but I found it in just about a minute.. guess I have a knack for finding silver.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I've sorted 50 of 200 rolls with 0 silver thus far. I did get out today and stopped at a few banks. I picked up 3 forty percent halves. Tomorrow I'll pick up a couple of boxes of halves that have been yielding almost 0 silver since I have been ordering them. I have a new bank ordering me some halves and I'll pick up my first box from that bank on the 16th. I need to switch to nickels for awhile, I have boxes that are gathering dust.

Well, I have sorted 100 rolls of the 200 rolls I bought and no silver so far. I went back to the bank that I got that record box from and they had some of the non brinks boxes so I bought 2. Each of those boxes has the same inspection date and the same inpector as did the record 7 silver roos box! This may mean nothing but we will see. Cwgii, glad to see you didn't get skunked. I got a canadian dime just yesterday, I thought it was a roos but only turned out to be a 1998 (I think) canadian. I hate those let downs.

UPDATE!

I opened one of those boxes that has the same date and inspector number as did the "record" box of seven silver dimes, and on the 6th roll, I found a 1951 roos. So, I jumped in my truck, and went back to the bank to see if they had any more of those boxes with the same number on the bottom. I stopped on the way to pick up some candy for the tellers. It turns out they had one more box with that number and now I have three total boxes with that number. I'm bettin' their all gonna be winners. Updates to follow.

UPDATE II!

That 6th roll not only had a 1951 roos but also a 1964 roos! This is my first two silver dime roll! Yehaa!

UPDATE III! Unbelievable. Roll number 7 had 3 silver dimes a 53, 57, and a 64!

UPDATE IV! 13th roll had 4 silver dimes, one of which is a 1940 merc. So after 13 rolls I have a new record for the number of silver dimes per box....9.

I am debating on whether or not to go to other branches to see if I can get them to look for those boxes that have the date these "record" boxes have. I don't know if I have the nerve to do that. I guess since I have two more boxes with the same date, I'll be content.
