I seem to recall a guy on here who saw some pretty hard times in Cuba. A search might pull up some pretty good info. I think his screen name is Ponce.

Are you throwing that out?

On the clothing front I usually look out for things made from natural materials at thrift stores, especially wool, silk, leather and fur. Wool and similar fibres are great for cold weather, stay warm even when damp, and are quite resistant to fire (a big advantage over oil-based synthetics that can melt to your skin as they burn). Silk is very light and packs small, great for hot weather or as an extra layer in the cold. Leather is tough, durable if maintained, and great for breaking the wind or as protective clothing. Fur is pretty expensive even at thrift stores but great for extreme cold, and as a trim it prevents drafts.

I've got an overtime check coming next week, so I'm going to take the extra $150 and try to buy about six extra pairs of walking shoes at Payless Shoes. Good shoes or lack of them could probably make or break a situation WTSHTF.

I used to make sandals out of old tires and leather strips back when I went for my edumication in the early 70's, kind of like a Roman sandal with newer materials. I sold them for $5 at the flea market on the weekends (trades for other needful things also transpired). I think the plans were out of the Mother Earth News (might have been the Last Whole Earth Catalog). They held up real well if you carved a recess for the straps on the bottom of the tread. They were quite functional and good until the snow got more than 4 inches deep.
I think the few functional brain cells left from that time might still be able to wiki up a pair or two if needed.

There's profit if you melt things!!

When did they start selling good shoes at Payless? Maybe you'd be better served buying one or two pair of better quality shoes elsewhere, IMHO.

Well amigos...... first thing to do is to sit down and think.....no lights, soft music.

Think.....how long will TSHTF do you think it will last? six months? NO, one year? NO, five years? NO, ten years? NO........you don't know and I don't know but........I suspect how long it will last..... do you really want to know? I don't think so.

First of all we will have a domino affect where because of one thing something else will happen, and so on down the lne......Do you know the story of the kingdom that was lost because of a nail?.....same here.

We are not what we used to be and the future "we" will be nothing like the old one where we were in Disneyland all the time.

Get ready for the worse and hope for the best......but......the first thing to ready for what is to come is YOUR MIND......once you accept what is to be then you will be 60% ready to go.

"No export = no recovery"... Ponce

Think of what we now import and will no longer be there and then buy it.....but......if anyone knows that you have something you will have then many "amigos" coming over to "visit" you.

Remember, I have seen all this in person and I gave money to the water man, oculist, gas man, meter man, local nurse and many other in order for them to take care of my dad... to check my dad's eyes it would had taken six months with a regular appointment but with 20 dollars it took only ten minutes and the eye glasses instead of six more months only one week.

"If you don't hold it, you don't own it"...Ponce

canning jar lids. The jars and rings can be reused but the inside lids should not. Cheap, long shelf life, easy to store, easy to trade.

The best investment and its FREE is in you neighbors. Become good friends with your neighbors as you will need their support more than you can ever imagine.
