Ok, so gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium, silver, and copper all have excellent stores of value contained in small doses, so what about food?

What are some food items that are:
1. easily stored
2. carry high calorie content per weight
3. non-perishable or have a long shelf life
4. easily transported
5. easily prepared to eat

Ideally, the best would rate high for all of the above, but some may have an excellent rating in one category and low in another. Notice that "taste" is not listed. Taste may have barter value, however.

I can't wait to hear the responses.

MRE's meet all of the above and some of the newer ones are actually quite tasty. They come with a heater, have long term shelf lives, are about 1200-1500 calories per pack, are ready to eat, and are even waterproof. At about $4-5 per meal they're also not too expensive.

Fruitcake. Some fruitcakes have been floating around for years and are still edible. A tiny 2x2x1 slice of a fruitcake can easily
be 80-100 carbs.

This is not a joke. - When you see a fruitcake at the store, check out the carb count.

Here are some ideas--especially the nuts and seeds they sell: You must be logged in to see this link.

I'm going to be ordering quite a bit of stuff from the site in the next few weeks.

Any nut, nut butter, or dehusked sunflower seeds.

Kind of OT but if you buy in bulk consider buying soybeans and a soy milk maker. It is a big money saver especially if you a big milk consumer.
