Here are the marked halves from my 2 boxes today, anybody recognise their mark? These were picked up outside Erie PA at my regular pickup.

Looks about like the usual markings, I don't get 2 colors on one coin all that much. I really dislike the Halves with a hole drilled in the back of Kennedy's head! |

I see alot of the small black dot right in the ear, and also a black line on the edge. I also see alot of a red mark on the reverse of halves. The first time I ever bought a box, the guy had edge marked some 40% halves, so I got a laugh out of that. That's what he gets for being lazy and not date checking! |

Some sorters mark them to see if they are getting their own rejects back in bank boxes. If so, it might be time to tap another source bank. There are always marked halves in the boxes I get and it seems like more and more are getting into sorting halves. |

I can give you a reason why. I found four of my marked halves today in a box. It took roughly two months for them to come back to me. I may start putting dates on some next time along with my recognizable markings. I like to track how much turnover is happening with halves. If I get silver halves in boxes that have some of marked coins, at least I feel like the well has not dried up yet. If I get consistently skunked and find my marked coins in those boxes, it will mean I will need to take a break from sorting IMHO. |
