I was in a jewelry store and the prop showed me a 1/10th oz pure gold coin.
It says John Adams 1979 on it.
Don't know if it's real.
Anybody know?

I don't recall seeing a coin like the one described listed anywhere.
It could be a gold token minted by the Franklin Mint back in 1979. Private mints were producing gold tokens and silver ingots to fill the demand for PMs back then, though then as now, the price asked for gold tokens was way over their melt value.
