Poll Question:
I know from time to time on the board there has been interest to find folks willing to trade copper for silver. However, I'm not sure there have been many takers on this.

Now I am curious since spot price doesn't really seem to reflect the actual cost of getting bullion silver, gold or platinum I'm curious to know of anyone at this point would like to trade what they might be holding for something different?

Choices:

I would like to trade my platinum for gold
I would like to trade my platinum for silver
I would like to trade my gold for platinum
I would like to trade my gold for silver
I would like to trade my silver for platinum
I would like to trade my silver for gold

I second Computer Jones;
I'd like to trade my 40% for 90% or gold if I could get a reasonable rate of exchange.

I'd trade a little silver for gold or platinum, IF I could get a reasonable rate for the silver. Spot price isn't a fair a value.

Ten people so far have voted for exchanging their silver for gold. At the ratio of current ratio of 83:1, I'd like to call your bluff. In fact, I'll trade my gold (either J&M or RCM 1 oz bars) for your silver to anyone at a rate of 1:75 (as long as it is in an "acceptable" form - Maple Leaf, Silver Eagle, or *recognized* 10/100 oz bars). Each side pays their own shipping and insurance.

p.s. I live in Canada if that causes any shipping/logistical concerns.

Standing offer for sale of quality, second-hand solid gold jewellery:

<$100 USD worth - spot +25%, plus actual shipping
$101-500 worth - spot +20%, plus actual shipping
$501-1,000 worth - spot +15%, plus actual shipping
$1,001+ worth - spot +10%, plus actual shipping

love to trade some of these pennies for either. living in a travel trailer does not lend itself to hoarding.

That's why I had a big "IF" in my reply. I started buying when silver was $20/ounce and gold was $1000/ounce, so if I go by what I actually paid instead of going by spot, a reasonable trade for me would be more like 1:50, and that would be for generic Ag/Au.

Even if you go by today's real prices, instead of spot prices, a 1:75 trade doesn't work out very well. A 1:75 trade for CML's, ASE's, and 10 oz bars, all three having some of the highest premiums of any silver out there at the moment, would work out to something like $1200/ounce for gold. 1 oz bars are available on Nucleo for under $900.

Nickelmeister, I don't think anyone said anything about trading at any specific ratio. Also, obviously since you are in Canada shipping stuff to you from the US will require filling out custom forms etc. Not offense, but that is a real pain in the butt not to mention the cost.

Regardless, I think the way to determine the strike price two parties could settle with would be to both try to determine what the going rate is for both gold and silver, maybe using eBay in trying to determine the current market price.

For instance glancing at eBay it would seem you might be able to buy a 10oz Silver Engelhard Bar "if you are lucky" for $130 to $140 plus postage. Obviously you’re not going to be able to buy one at spot!

Likewise, for a Gold Engelhard Bar you might be able to get a one ounce bar for between $800 to $850. Again, if you are lucky!

So, maybe something like 60 ounces of silver to 1 ounce of gold is fair? I'm sure others might have a different opinion! Does this seem too low or high? What say you?

I'm waiting for 16:1 to come back around.
It stood for quite some time, unlike the out of sync pricing that is happening now.
I'm in no hurry.
Gold's going to drop or (more likely) Silver will rise.
I'm in it for the long haul.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone's intelligence, in fact this was my point exactly. Claiming that you'd "like to trade silver for gold" without specifying a ratio is completely ludicrous. The spot vs. spot ratio sits at 83:1 right now, a point at which I would be a trader of Au to Ag unquestionably. My offer to call people on this trade just proved my point :)

$50K in silver is about the size of a loaf of bread.I think you have enough space for something of that size and I'm guessing if you live in a travel trailer, you don't have $50k in silver.

by problem with copper is just the shear weight. i like haveing quantity over quality. but it just is not feasible anymore.

Since the question was a poll question it was really was about asking people in terms of what they would like to hold, or have more of, versus what they have now.

I think it is a fair statement that out of 23 votes 12 people say would like to have more gold in their pocket than silver.

Unfortunately, the spot price does not truly refect the market price. Today gold is around $795 and silver $9.73. however is doubtful you are going to find anyone willing to trade spot versus spot for gold and silver because the premiums people have to pay for the smaller bars of silver are a considerable amount over spot.

If I had gold, I would trade for silver. I think the price is manipulated and the premiums are in place to cover the dealer's arse.

I have bought 50+OZ of CML's(they are so pretty) for 5 over spot the last couple weeks and I feel good about it. Over time (hopefully in the next 24mo) the silver prices will move up to represent a more respectable GSR...

I can still find CML's for that price (as of a week ago) appox and in a week or so plan to pick up another roll.... And I will still feel good about it.

Or I might be a moron, wife hasn't told me as of yet.
