Hi. I pulled a stamped 1974d penny out of a Brinks box today. The penny has a stamped image of JFK facing Lincoln. I also got one a few weeks ago w/ a stamp of the state of Texas on it. Are these stamped pennies worth anything significant? Are they rare? Who does this, the mint, or someone after the coin is in circulation?
These coins aren't particularly valuable or rare. I have found a few in my rolls when I was still a hand sorter. The stamp was put there by any number of private companies who sell posters of the JFK-Lincoln assasination similarities. The Texas one was probably off a 50-state poster. It isn't anything sanctioned by the mint and the damage done by the stamp actually takes away any numismatic value it may have had. They are cool novelties though, so I hold on to them.
