I just found 1976 1.8 gram lincoln penny with very little surface wear on either side. I assume it is copper as it has browned like a 1976 would look. Any chance this is a blank from a british half penny that some Tory anglophilic US mint worker slipped in to protest the bicentennial? Or does this fall within the normal variation on copper pennies?
What is the lightest or heaviest copper penny you have found?
I would take it to a larger coin show and show it to a few error dealers. If they make an offer on it, it is probably real, and you save the cost of certification.
