I know next to nothing about UK coinage, and a couple layovers in London only taught me that London is a stupid expensive city.
I keep finding UK pennies (all years) in my penny rolls and I've pulled a few 5 pence from Canadian dime rolls. Wikipedia shows the pennies were bronze before 1992 and suggests that the 1 and 2 pence are worth more then melt.
Anyone know anything more about this? Are there lots of pre 1992 pennies out there and do pennies still circulate widely?

I've done my own Coinflation-style face-vs-melt values for UK coinage, and I can confirm that UK 1- and 2-pence coins made from 1971-1991 have a melt value premium (although it is currently only a slight amount). This isn't true for the obsolete half pence (1971-1984).
Also, if you're into copper-nickel, the old large-size 5 pence (1968-1989) and 10 pence (1968-1991) are your next-best bet for metals speculation.
