Well the price of zinc is sure to sky rocket now. After building up a stockpile of 1500 face value of zinc pennies prior to dumping them, I finally am zinc free. I dumped the last 190 dollars worth this morning.

Actually, I did the same thing this Saturday. I dumped around $300. Now I too am zinc free. Except for all the zincs in the boxes and bags I need to sort....

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

At first I thought I was zinc free like you guys.. except for all those zincers contaminating my unsorted boxes. Then I remembered that huge bucket of BU zincs I have been throwing aside, and the stacks of boxes of shiny new zincs from various years I have stockpiled. I will never be zinc free.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I need another counter to be zinc free...lol. Mine has been full of copper for the last few days and all that zinc is sitting around in buckets and in unsorted boxes.

Congrats, you know you will get it right back

1.5% to 1.75% of my hoard is zinc. More like 5% in the US penny bin. Of course the percentage is higher in the unsorted bins still. I'm never going to be zinc free either.

I am not completely zinc free. I do have a box or two of BU zincs. But it did feel good to finally get that my big container of zincs empty. I only hand sort and do not have a counter. I had saved up over a $1000 worth of zinc prior to my first dump. Now I regularly hand sort $150-250 a week and dump those zincs as well as working on my built up pile.

If you're a small volume sorter it's easier to be zinc-free ;-)

My usual habit once I've got 4 rolls of pennies is to trade those in for a roll of nickels. The bank tellers seem to not mind you doing small scale swaps like that. Wonder what they'd do if I started bringing them $50 bags of zincs though (I'm in the country so all our bank branches are pretty small)

You may be on to something. I was buying coin one day and buying Quarters for my wife to sort. Also ended up with hundreds in two dollar coins one teller wanted to get rid of. I found it easier to exchange coins for other coins - two dollars and quarters for pennies and nickels. The fact I was offering all coin seemed to legitamize my need for coin. I would just say I was overstocked on quarters, and needed pennies etc. at each driveby.

You can also use the excuse as you trade the rolls in that you need different change for the weekend yard sales (at least this works in the summers :)

Gonna go try that today.

"Hi, I need different change for weekend yard sales. I would like to trade this box of half dollars and box of nickels for 24 boxes of pennies."

legacypac.. what do you do with all those twonies? I have a lot of them also. They are harder to get rid of down here. I call it the Queen with the bare behind coin.
