Let me preface this post by saying that I live in Canada and older US coins are harder to come by here.

I went into my coin dealer today and he had over $200 in Morgan and Peace dollars. Some of the highlights were 15 1921 Peace dollars, Two 1928 peace dollars, a 1893 O Morgan and a 1890 CC. An 87 year old man was going to give them all to the church he kept them in a coffee can but my dealer convinced him that it would be better to give them modern cash. Thank God!

I scored the best 1921 and 1928(both at least MS-60 which put the value of even these two coins around $900) plus he allowed me to come back about two hours later and sort through the full hoard for holes in my collection. I am now $1500 poorer but man do I have a nice collection of Morgans and peace dollars and I got a killer deal.

In all I got about 30 dollars and I already own about 40 Morgan and peace dollars so this has been a real boon for me. All non slabbed coins.

I know $1500 seems a lot and it is but value the 28 other coins I am getting a only $25 each and that only adds up to $650. (yes they are worth more on the average)

If I get some time I will try and post some of these but I am working on the installment plan and I wont have all of them for a while.

One day my son will thank me for willing this fine gift to him. Like it or not he will be a coin expert by the time he is 14.

I need to work on slabbing some of these coins. I have some real gems and they should not be in 2 X 2 flips.

BTW I had a hard time paying for nickels this week. LOL

Do you like the coins? Can you afford them? Since the answers to both these questions is "yes", I'd say you got a good deal.

Like what Ant said, as long as you are happy that is all that matters. Sounds like a good score. Are you not close to the border? I can't remember where you said in Canada you live.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

You may be a short term pauper, but this is one of those rare deals that you'd regret for a lifetime if you didn't snag some of the better coins. I've had many successes like this, but still remember the ones that I let get away even more vividly. Good job.

Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply.
