I was at the bank earlier today trying to pick up some nickel and penny boxes. No penny boxes to be had that weren't new and shiny. However, the teller, who orders boxes of halves for me, said that she "saw an older penny today that had 'one cent' written on the back. Do you want it?" "Yes, I would like to have it," I responded, getting just a little bit excited. So, she searches through her stack of pennies in her change thingy(that stacks coin), and she can't find the old penny with "one cent" written on the back. "I must have given it out already in change," she says.

Despite my disappointment, I think I may have been very close to a wild Indian today. I did not see it with my own eyes, but I do think I was close. Perhaps if I had done the dance, fate would have allowed me to at least see a wild Indian.

Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

Could have been the old Canadian Cent though too. They say One Cent on the back in big letters.

I did it! After all the pennies I have sorted, I finally found an Indian tonight, not only that but it's a 1867! It is in horrible condition it would grade AG-2. You can just make out the date a loop.

And Ithought that we were going to get rid of the rational thinkers after all.

Keep it up ten bears, you'll find one yet.

It doesn't take them long in the open to loose their feathers and look like Lincoln. It probably came in as an elusive Indian, but made the quick change before the teller even knew it.

When my wife got after me it sounded like "Blah,Blah,Blah", but now it sounds like "Clink,Clink,Clink". Its amazing what that Ryedale can do for a hounded husband.

I do have a update on the wild Indian situation.

While looking through a roll and foreign critter rolled out, apparently on its last breath. It told me 'B..ware of the....th..bear' and just silently faded away. I wish i had more info on this Indian but it has no signs of life on the head side and a barely shown 'one cent' on the back.

I hope this can help find out why they only appear in certain parts on the country. Indian #5

I've searched for the wild indians for some time, I've found a ton of Knucks (Canadian), and even one from Bahama's.... I guess that would be an Islander.... No indians.

Um, all US cents made since 1859 have had "one cent" on the reverse.

True. But the teller said an "older penny" which I took to be a different design than the current one. She obviously did not realize that current pennies have "one cent" on the bottom of the reverse because she thought the "one cent" marking unusual. She made it sound like "one cent" was the main feature on the back of the penny like a wild Indian would have. I suppose it could have been a wheat, and it probably was because we all know that Indians no longer live in the wild. Nevertheless, Cerulean, don't try to rain on my very small parade. This may be as close to a wild Indian as I will ever get!

Those bigger ones prior to that had "one cent" on them too. Even the "Buzzard cents" produced for a few years had it.

Just got another Indian Head today in a Brinks Box 1905 in XF condition. Best condition of the 4 I've found this year. Hadn't found any since April and I was getting worried.

I would have never believed it myself, I heard the rumors, then it happened to me! Since I started I've managed to capture a total of four wild Indians! :-)
