My father in law bought 7 silver qtrs at a yard sale last month for $1. He wants to sell them. I am not sure of the dates. He asked me what they are worth so that he can put them in his booth in an antique mall.

If I offer him $20 for all three, is that a fair price?

$20 for 3 is high.
$20 FOR 7 is decent price.

1932 is the key year assuming they are washingtons.

silver value alone makes them $3 and change.
worth looking up. there are some pretty valuable quarters(1916,1927s,etc..)

Face value alone makes them worth $1.75.

I assume that he paid $1 each. Otherwise, who would have sold them for less than face?

They are worth a little over $3/each just in silver value so I would say $20 is a fair offer for all seven of them (assuming no key dates). Either way sounds like your FIL found a great deal!

Sorry, there are seven. The three got in my head because I was fifuring $3 each.

He bought two whitman folders at the sale for $.50 each. Between the two there were 7 silver washingtons.

there are no key dates and none are in good shape. I just hate to see the silver go. Plus if he puts them in his booth, he might end up paying credit card fees and dealers get an automatic 15% disc, so he could lose that way also.

people really should check those folders. I had a coin dealer leave two silver dimes in one that was marked 33 cents. I told him and he was like, I thought I took everything out. I could have just stayed quiet... it is the seller's job to check what they sale. The buyer doesn't have a responsible to check it for you. I was just nice or stupid.

MM, good point. I will tell him to do that. I need to double check for him that there are no better coins in the bunch.
