Just saw a new commercial by commerce bank. Regis and kelly making jokes about Regis dumping about 100 in coinage. Thought it was funny to see a commercial about a new dump bank. I guess there is no fee to dump and you dont need an account.Im pretty sure its only going to be a limited time offer just like bank atlantic. I see these banks poping up everywhere in S Fla. Peace

I use commerce as a dump bank for about he last 6 months or so because of their proximity to my job and they have a lot of branches. Their free coin counter is open to the public, no questions asked. If you are asked about having an account, so far it's always so they can hand you a promotional flyer. This is the bank I found them pulling a half dollar bag out of the machine that was bleeding silver. I asked to buy it, but not allowed. They hand out brinks boxes and only once was I asked if I had an account on a drive buy pickup. They gave me the pennies even after I said no, but I'm Sooooooo... tempted to open an account if they would be willing to get me half dollar boxes on a regular basis.

This was utterly painful to read. You know they sent those coins back to brinks for processing, at which point brinks probably sorted the silver out themselves before boxing the rest for delivery elsewhere. I always thought about asking commerce tellers if I could buy stored penny or half dollar bags from their sorting machines. Now that I know how their system works, I won't bother.

I've been using them to dump coins since long before I even knew about sorting. These machines have been free to use for years, at least here in PA. I've never had an account with them and have been using their sorting machines since maybe 2001.

Also, anyone else who dumps at commerce: Have you ever dumped halves there, and did it clog the machine? It seems like every time I've dumped halves, tellers would have to come out and fix something. I've been staggering my half dollar dumps, and rotating local branches, to help minimize my chances of being cut off. I don't know of any other local banks which would make good dumps so I'd be at an extreme disadvantage if I ever lost commerce.

Commerce has the best sorting machine in my area, hands down. While Chevy Chase Bank's sorting machines are not calibrated to handle halves, I've never had trouble with the Commerce counters. They accept halves just fine.

I know of one particular Commerce branch where dumping halves results in a shortage, which comes out if you run pennies or something after that. All the other counters I know take halves just fine.
