I know it is legal to melt silver coins but have herd it is not legal to melt pennies. Do you think this will change any time in the near future?

There have been lobbyists from certain States trying to get the melt ban lifted already. But, at present, all we can do is guess as to when the ban is lifted. Personally, I don't think it will be near future as in less than a couple of years. That is pure speculation of course. |

Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

The sooner everyone on here removes all the coppers from circulation the sooner they will lift the ban on melting. It would cost the gov. to much to replace all the copper pennies that would be removed if people could make an instant profit on them. Thanks for the reply Ten bears |

All we need too is a belief that they will lift the ban. Why? I don't know about you guys, but I can not melt copper in my set up here. As long as someone down the pike believes or is willing to do a melt, then the market for copper pennies will thrive. Why else do people pay 2x face value on Ebay for post 1958 bulk pennies? |

I try to do my small part.
The reason for there actually being a market on eBay is because a lot of nice collector coins are included in those copper bags. And they are currently selling below melt so it is a bargain for some buyers. I have the capability to melt them if I needed to, but I don't like the idea of fines or prison, and I see no reason to alter the form of a perfectly good government issued round of known weight and fineness. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

No doubt! With your array of coin machinery it wouldn't surprise me if you had combo smelter/ingot wrapper in your basement. |

Haha, yeah it was just you and me bidding on that 777. I really had no idea what I was going to use it for, but at that price I couldn't help but bid. Especially since eBay/PayPal keep sending me coupons for 10% off and $10 off shipping. |

The pattern is clear over and over - debase the coinage, howl about needing coins for commerce, impose a melt ban, when there are no more old coins lift the melt ban. We can still use the coins for bullion and I see no reason to melt even one at this point. |

Yeah, I was pretty sure it was you when I saw the bidder name, Nate. Normally I would have used the sniping program and you wouldn't have been able to come back and bang me twice.. LOL, but my computer has been shutting itself down lately so I couldn't trust it. I used my $10 shipping coupon on it.. that covered half of what you added on. |

All those millions of items on eBay and you would have to pick the one I was bidding on
So what's the secret to decrypting those lovely censored bidder names, besides looking at the feedback number?
EDIT: Just realized I've more or less hijacked this thread...sorry! |

We all answered the question - now I want to know the secret to decripting buyer names too. |
