It all depends on the bank. I did a driveby at a bank that I didnt have an account with at the time, and asked if they had any pennies they wanted to get rid of. The tellers dug through their safes, and through the vault. Came up with over $200. They said thank you soo much, we've been tripping over them in the vault lately.

So you really never know... If you make their life easier, they will probably be happy to help you.

Are most banks looking for opportunities to get rid of pennies? I might try this Friday with banks where I don't have an account.

What would be the best day of the week to go asking if banks have any pennies they want to get rid of?

not on a friday for one! And if on a friday, not while there is a line, and people with checks wanting to be cashed. And if it is the first of the month? Forget it.

Standing orders are the best way to assure you obtain a decent quantity. By adding drive buys to this you get a little of both worlds. Sometimes you will get a decent amount on a drive buy and sometime you will get very little. Middle of the week is usually the best time to visit banks. Avoid Fridays if you can.. and whatever days government checks come out.. those are the days everybody and their brother is in line and the tellers are stressed out and just trying to make it through the day. Always be polite and thank the teller for their time.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
