Hmm...I have a physics final tomorrow and here I am reading all the active topics on this forum instead. Can anybody come up with a connection between pennies and quantum mechanics so I have an excuse? |

8 boxes is a lot nckt.. especially to sort by hand. I know penny sorting is fun, but you have balance it with the less fun things that you are obligated to do.. like homework and studying. The best way is to set goals on the stuff that you have to do and then reward yourself by sorting a box.
Glad I don't have that problem.. I have so many pennies to sort I could never get them done and still do all the other things I have to do.
The solution.. get a Ryedale. Then you will go though all your pennies so fast you will have nothing left to sort and will have to attend to your studies. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Perfect!
I thought studying Relativity last semester was bizarre. Quantum mechanics just seems so...well...this picture sums it up nicely.

I had to take my pennies to be sorted out of my office, I brought them home. I kept sorting instead of doing actual work. Its a sickness I tell you, a sickness. |

Brings back memories - I still have bad dreams about finals. You have to get away from it occasionally. Do something else - sort halves or dimes. |

You youngsters put down the d--- pennies and hit the books. You have all summer to sort. First things first. |

Haha, well I'm done with finals but I don't have any pennies to sort. So far I've just been pulling the copper out of my (and a few family members') pocket change, but that doesn't add up to much. Now that I'm done with classes I'll hopefully have some time to grab a few boxes. Come fall maybe they'll pay for my books... |

My problem is I tend to want to oversort - I have an array of coin rolls on my desk, one for each year 1959-1982 and one for pre-59. When one fills up, I pour it into a flat roll and label the year.
I also can't resist looking for error coins along the way, but that slows me down quite a bit -- I only get through about 20 rolls a night.
Does anyone else spend time looking for errors?

Ah yes, I still have nightmares about school! Usually it involves taking a test that I didn't study for! |
Are you throwing that out? |

Amazing how many people on here have nightmares about exams after having finished school. It's been exactly 3 years since I graduated and I still get them every so often (though not as frequently as I used to). Mine generally involve me missing the scheduled exam time somehow and being screwed out of passing the class as a result.
The realization that you've graduated and all is OK after waking up is rather relaxing. I find it to be a soothing way to start my long and mundane work day. In that regard, they aren't so bad as far as nightmares go. |

for kwen25:
Errors are killing my manual sorting time, but I do it now because when I get my Ryedale I won't be able to. So far I've found two 1983 cents with slight C doubling, two 1972 double dies (weak, but true, more like a poor mans double die), 1 1969-S with date doubling, a few off centers, 1 gold plated(??!??), probably a few more I cannot think of. Oldest penny 1910. |

When you get the Ryedale it does not mean you stop looking for errors.. you just decide whether to look in the copper pile or the zinc pile for them. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

True, but I will go through the coppers to pull the wheats, If I have to go through the zincs also for the 82,83, 84 and 95, I'm back where I started. I have every wheat penny I've gotten in the last 35 years. I don't think I could give up pulling wheats. The notion of selling them makes me slightly nauseous..... |

Just don't accidentally lick your fingers after a heavy duty session of hand sorting. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |
