Those are the source mint marks.
D is Denver S is San Fran P or none is Philly
S are rarer than the others because of lower mintage. I pull the S mint marks out. D and P goes together as none after 1959 are very hard to find.

| you probably should keep your 1982's seperate to sort later. they usually run around 80% copper. best way to tell is by weighing them. |

The scales are tilted in your favor just a tad Hoard - realistically, more than 2 to 1 as in your S mint yeild is 7% to my 3% here on the East Coast. I'd have to sort more than twice as many cents jut to keep up with you - no way I could compete. Oh, and I should be more specific - I am setting aside the 68S through 74S cents that I happen to notice while cracking rolls and monitoring the copper bin under my Ryedale. I'm sure I miss most of them. I'm sure I miss some wheats as well, but not nearly as many. |

Hey ya CukNuck Dude, maybe you could also keep an eyeball peeled for Pre-68, S's too? I nabbed one the other evening out of an older wrapped role from a small town corner store. Most of that roll were from the 40's and fifties, and all from Canada, with the wheatie being the only US cent in there. Just a 44 but it was in nice condition and bore the S mint mark. :-)

| Is anyone here actively buying the 1968-1974 "S" mint mark cents? I havent been separating them but if there is market specifically for these, then maybe I should. |

If you are hand sorting there is no reason not to keep them seperate.
Seperate them.. the market will develop.. |

Lol I guess I should. I have no intention of going through what I have already sorted and boxed up so I guess I'll start with the next box tomorrow. |

How much would a bag of regular copper cents go for on eBay?
Results vary widely. The first one will probably do very well. Then when the market gets flooded the week after.. they won't be going so high. |

Shouldn't take too long. In your area with a 20% copper percentage and 7% of those being S mints you would only have to sort $3250 face to put it together. Heck, that's only 130 boxes. You are still hand sorting aren't you? |

| The government would worry that they might forget to send them back. They might accidently fall in the melting pot. India is a known user of copper. |
