Since I discoverd that my $50 coin counter from Staples is not accurate, I have decided to go back and recount my small hoard (around 20K pennies). To make it go faster, I use a digital scale with a small tupperware container on it. I tare the scale so that it shows zero with the container on it, and then can quickly add about 50 pennies into the container. My scale is rated for 150g, but has some allowance to go over so 50 pennies works well. The weight comes in at about 154.5-150.0 depending on wear, and using this method I can count 2000 pennies in about 6-7 minutes. I thought I would share this with everyone so that any hand sorters/hand counters can save some time.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.
