I sometimes advise them about coins. Lately I have been suggesting the tellers send messages to management telling them to get out of the credit card business and invest in gold. I doubt any of them do it though.

I've told a few about finding silver coins and what they can be worth.

Are you throwing that out?

No, I never give advice to tellers. I smile and say "Yes Ma'am" and let it go at that.

A penny sorted is a penny earned!

Nope...I dont want to alert them to my game. As far as they know, I am strictly a coin collector building sets. If they found out I might profit from my weekly pickups then they might cut me off. They are under no obligation to order extra boxes of pennies for me and to take time out from their day to go to the vault to get them. I do peak in their trays every time I am there, so if I ever see silver I may have to explain why I am picking and choosing certain dimes/quarters/halves from their tray.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I don't volunteer anything. If I'm asked, I tell them me and my nephew are penny collectors looking for wheats and steel '43s. This is not a lie because we are, in addition to my hoarding...

I had a money order that I took to one of my banks. It was written $50 in copper, and the MO was for $90. The lady asked how many pennies it took to get $50 in copper. I told her a lot, I sort mainly for wheats and the coppers are just an added bonus.

I advise the tellers to give me all their pennies.

I am such a nice guy that way.. saving them from all that shipping.

You should probably just deposit those kinds of money orders at the ATM to avoid questions.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

By a lot I would guess around $250 :)

"This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the "hidden" confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard." Alan Greenspan, 1966.

A less informed teller is the best kind. Tell them you collect coins and are always looking for old ones. If they know what coins are valuable, they will never be made available to you. I get phone calls from telllers that someone has turned in coins and they look old. I've received several whole rolls of half dollars that are 40-90% silver.

I talk to a lot of tellers at different branches within the bank I work for. For the most part, they don't want to take the time to look for anything. If they do see something however, they will let set it aside for me. I get emails daily from different branches that say they have found silver dimes, quarters, halves and copper cents..

In my situation (working at a bank) I feel honesty is best with what I'm doing. This way they know I'm not up to anything illegal and most are more willing to help me accomplish the goals I have (pay for my education with coins).

Maybe it's something to consider guys, it's not like all the copper cents and silver coins will disappear over night..

I usually go with the "Ignorance is Bliss" way of thinking about the copper pennies. The tellers ignorance is my bliss....A lot of tellers I know pull silver already. I don't need them hitting my copper as well.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
