* No more coin jams - save time and money with less down time * 12 volts * For U.S. Quarters can be adjusted for most tokens also * Magnetic induction system provides an accept / reject decision within milliseconds * No special power supplies required * Easily change formats - just put the coin you want the Coin Comparitor to recognize into the sample holder and perhaps make a minor sensitivity adjustment * Anything that does not match the sample coin is automatically rejected
Now...how can I power the thing? Can I use an old cell phone charger?
You need to look to see what the power requirements are for Voltage and also the amperage it recommends. Then you can probably buy a power supply from Radio Shack or some place like that. Be sure to hook it up right. Hooking it up backwards will fry your new comparitor pretty quickly. Pretty sure your old cell phone charger will not work for this.

I used an old cell phone charger and it worked perfectly, heowever HCBTT is right that you need to match the power requirements of the comparitor. Wiring is difficult. Look at the charger you have and it should have markings on it showing the positive an negative. Usually a drawing with a circle and a + inside it and a line going to a middle circle and then a circle and a - inside the circle and a line also going to the middle circle. The middle circle represents the connector that you plug into your device.
More details on the web site. I don't have it any more, My son has it. Can't provide anything else that's not on the web site in the more info section.
i assume this is the one that twisted quarter is selling on ebay?
If so, i just got the same one in the mail... did you get an instruction sheet with yours? If not, i can probably scan/email.
You need to look at the specs on your cell phone charger- they're usually stamped or printed on the "wall wart". You need 12VDC at a minimum of 150mA. i have no idea what cell phones run off of; i suspect it varies from one manufacturer to another. A computer power supply will work if you have one laying around.
As far as wiring the device, horgad's instructions should be right on. i wish i'd seen that thread before ordering it, tho, as his experiences sound a bit discouraging... i'll have to see what i can do.
Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?
Yes! Its the same comparitor! I have the instructions...thank you though! Yeah I already tried to hook up a 5V cell charger to the thing and it didn't work. When I have time I'm going to do a quick search of the house to find a 12v charger...if I don't find one I'm just going to go to Radio Shack and cough up another $20.
I'll report back on this topic regularly...Once I get the thing juiced and it works I plan on building some type of apparatus. We should keep this dialog open so we can help each other out...
I bought a couple of the comparitors and some power supplies from Radio Shack and then decided I was not going to reinvent the wheel better than Andy so I bought a Rydale! Some day I might rig one of these up as a copper verification device.

Those of us who have built working coin sorters, like myself and Horgad, have purchased the Ryedale machines. They are much faster than anything you can build yourself. Time is of utmost importance as the copper coins are diminishing in percentages and could be gone overnight. Why waste your time and money on something that may work but will not be nearly as fast as the Ryedale.
