So a little while back I wrote about getting some nickels and dimes to hoard. The dimes were a mess up on my and the tellers part.

Now I got pennies, I've hand sorted through a 25.00 bag and am working on a 50.00 bag. Don't know what the copper count is right now since I'm not done, but I already have a few wheats, 6 or 7 canadian pennies (which are a bit far from home in florida), and one question.

Are really shiny pennies from the 50s and 60s normal? There's one that I had that I almost missed because it looked like a brand new 2008 coin but something told me to look at the date again and it was something like 64.

Anyway, now instead of waiting to get home to play games... I get home, go in my room and flip the lamp on and sort through about 30 mins worth of coins, and i can see a ryedale in my future already. Friends seem to be taking the idea kinda well to. :-)

Yes, some brand new shiny wheats do show up occasionally.. it is perfectly normal. Finding shiny new coppers is even more common.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

The shiny ones are just oddballs that you will come across every now and then.Came out of a set, found under an couch, bottom of an old jar, etc.

I usually throw the shiny ones in my penny books. They are usually better than the ones I had in there in the first place.

Welcome aboard Mantokir, I too have wondered where all the beautiful shiny BU pennies from the 60'S and 70'S come from. I have several that look like they just came from the mint yesterday but they are over 40 years old. I wonder where they have been hanging out for the last 40 years. And I wonder why there is so many of them. After I get my copper processed I go through and pull out all the BU coins from the 60'S and 70's and throw them in a separate pail. I think sometime down the road they will a numismatic value greater than the copper value.

As far as cleaning them most people that collect coins will tell you never clean a coin it will actually bring down the value of the coin.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

I've also found some very nice old LM pennies, including several 1960's that look as new as some 2007's except for that they are a bit darker in color.

I'm guessing someone sorted an old penny stock for wheats and dumped all the memorials, not caring about the copper.

Someday when I start sorting my copper hoard I'll pull these out for penny books or special rolls.

I'd just do it to the ones with little or no numismatic value.. the ones that are worth somthing I'd sell since I'm not much of a coin collector :-)

I have been getting an increased number of really clean shiny '60 and '70s coppers. It has actually been noticable in the last couple of weeks. I even got a '59 that shines like new.

I picked out an incredible 1936 a couple of weeks ago. I use it for the tellers when they ask why I want so many pennies.

I carry a copper memorial, an Indian cent, and a wheat cent in my wallet to show tellers what I am looking for if asked.

So....

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
