Poll Question:
What do you do with the 82's pennies

Choices:

Keep all of them,sort later
Sort them when you find them
Put in a jar and forget about them
Don''''t keep any of them

None of the above.
Since I use a Ryedale I keep the copper ones and turn in the zinc ones.

I had sort and seperate them as I come across them. To determine if it is copper, I drop the coin against a hard surface (my table) and listen for a ring. Coppers make a sharp, distinct ringing sound when dropped, whereas zincs have more of a "thud" sound. I've found that a good majority of 1982's are copper.

Yep.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

I think sorting them with a Ryedale counts as "Sort them when you find them." Of course this is what I did using a scale back in my pre-Ryedale days too.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Just use a sensitive digital scale, and weigh them.

For you penny numismatists, there are allegedly 7 varieties of the 1982 penny involving large and small dates and different mint marks. I don't know what the 7 varieties are. But, if you have a large collection of 1982s, it might be worth it to you to sort through them and try to get a complete set.

"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

I hand sort and have a small home made machine sorter. If I hand sort, I put them aside and run them through the machine later. If I machine sort, I never see them, but they are sorted as I go.
