I bought 11 pounds of wheat cents today, unsorted by the seller except to remove the steel pennies. He graciously threw in a pound of steel cents since I bought so many wheaties.

Now I have to sort 'em by year. Now, where did I put the ziplocs?

Way cool, I hope you find some goodies in there.

I just found a 1909 wheat VDB penny this past weekend, and I haven't really even started sorting through my copper yet. It's worth about $10. Now if I can just get the 1909 VDB-s, that would pay for the Ryedale!

Very nice! Did you find this in one of your boxes that you were sorting?

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Ant,
Congratulations. Did you get a good deal. Wheats seem to be in demand right now.

I sort mostly all of my cents by year. The best thing I have purchased to keep them separate are plastic tackle boxes from Walmart. They come in various sizes to suit your need. I recommend the 6X4 (24 adjustable compartments) One is able to fit the entire copper lincoln memorials and two more for 1909-58.

I kind of like the plastic coin tubes for sorting them if I ever get around to it. You can leave them in the box of 100 and put labels on the top. I also have some custom wood and metal racks for holding coin tubes.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I found them on craigslist, of all places, amidst the postings for Englehard silver rounds for $40 each, heh.

The guy who was selling them inherited them from his father, who was the caretaker for a woman whose husband had penny arcades out on Coney Island. She left the pennies to this fellow's dad.

I paid $60 for slightly over 11 pounds, and he threw in 140 steel cents, one of which is really shiny (that's the numismatic term, I'm sure). I don't know if that's an especially good deal or not -- don't common wheat cents usually run about 3 cents each? But I saw that ad and thought that for the price, I *had* to have those wheaties! I tripled my wheatie hoard!

I think you got a good deal myself, just one or two "valuable" pennies will more than pay for what you spent on them.

I'm going to have to get an add on Craigslist here real soon to sell some copper myself. That will complete the cycle for me and allow me to sort until the copper is gone from circulation.

Let us know if you find any good ones!
