My mom was mad at me today, so I had to walk the half an hour to the bank, with 2 boxes of zincs on my back, and walk back with two more.
Then I got home and found out one box was 2007s, so I had to take that one back.

parents can be tough. Being back at home for a semester, after 2 years of college, because of a semester on suspension, tougher.
Chin up, in this game i've learned it's hit and miss. :)

Just a suggestion you could tell the bank tellers that you are looking for wheat pennies, so you are looking for older pennies. Tell them that you do not want a box that is all new pennies. I don't know what kind of boxes you are getting but some of the boxes I get have the little holes in the box so you can check each roll that is in the box. If all 50 rolls look new than you can reject that box. Or if they have a scale there they might be able to weigh the box for you. If it weighs over 15 lbs. it would be worth taking home. Also ask if you can get the $50.00 bags they take off their coin counter, from the coins that customers bring in. I tell all my banks, pick up banks and dump banks that I am looking for wheat pennies and that I will be cycling through large amounts of pennies. They are fine with it. And they don't care that I only bring back zinc. Good luck with your sorting.

Sorry for posting on an old post but i can feel your pain. Being 14 and having a mother who can get mad and not take you places for a month really blows. I was thinking is i would be able to carry $100 in pennies 1 mile back from the bank but i am not sure it i am even strong enough to do that. Well even thought that was a week ago that happens to me a lot, i even once had to take a 1 month break because of that.

Heck, some of us old guys have a hard time carrying $100 in pennies out to the car. Of course carrying in 2 bags of zinc is so much easier.. it is a lot lighter.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Lol I know what you mean. I carried 5 boxes out to the car last week and that was rough. The week before it was 4 boxes of pennies and 2 boxes of nickels (roughly 100 pounds or so) and that was brutal.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I have done the 6 box strut a few times (2 boxes of nickels and 4 boxes of pennies).. LOL.. I figure it at 106 pounds. For much more than that I break out the cart which is good for 660 pounds. But for carrying 3 or 4 boxes I have found those cloth grocery bags work fine. For the 6 box strut to the car you just put 3 boxes in each bag and you are well balanced.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I'm impressed that there are actually 2 teenagers( I'm assuming lukeownzu is because of his statement about his mother driving him) that are 1, into investing for their future, and 2, that they are willing to walk to the bank if necessary to accomplish that goal.

Most modern kids won't lift a finger to help themselves and expect everything handed to them. These 2 gentlemen are motivated! That is the American spirit this country is sorely lacking. Kudos to both of you!

Instead of strapping them to your back, break out your Red Ryder if you or any younger siblings still have it. Borrow a hand cart. Even a wheelbarrow would work.., load that baby up and head to town.... Don't worry about what people think. Heading to town with a wheelbarrow full of money might become a common sight soon if we keep devaluating the dollar. Or get a package shelf for your bike.

You are correct. The younger they start the better off they will be. Kudos to them!

Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

When lugging my boxes from the bank to the car, or my $25 bags from the car to the bank, I can carry at most 4 boxes at once but typically I only go for 3 'cause they are sorta hard to balance.

The bags are easier, I carry two in each hand at a time. I could go for more but I'm long past the age where I feel compelled to show off how strong I am.

Sad thing is there isn't much strong left for me to show anyway. heh heh.
