Today was a good day. MCAS Reading/ELA tests are finally over, and I got to end the week with the W.M.S. Coin Club. Today, I gave some red wheats (50's) and AU Canadians (70's) to the kids. In addition, I gave them some state quarters. My partner, a fine gentleman who got me back into the hobby years ago, gave everyone a BU example presidential dollar straight from the roll. I was very impressed to see that one of the students actually found a planchet after sorting for just 2 months (a middle-schooler is sorting here, guys)! It feels good to help others get started. Coin collectors (and hoarders too) should strive to share with others.

Very true, it impresses me that though most of us here are "hoarders" we don't mind sharing our secrets or ideas and even encourage others to join in on our hoarding. No nicer group of ladies and gentlemen have I ever had the pleasure of being associated with. |

And here I thought we were all supposed to be greedy old misers who love nothing more than the sound of our money running through our selfish fingers.
Oh wait, that's just me ;)
I've told several people at the bank where I pick up my pennies exactly why I'm doing this. But the easier explanation I'm starting to use is that I just collect wheat pennies, and I have to look through lot's and lot's of pennies to find them.

Yep, I think I will sneak out of work early today so I can go home and do a Scrooge McDuck dive into one of my large copper tubs. |

That is great. I was a pretty serious collector by the time I was in middle school. Welcome to the forum. I saw where you said you roll up your coppers.. do you do your zincs the same way? |

I've never found one. I can't complain though, as I've found two Indian Heads. Great work! If I could get all of the money I've wasted on Star Wars action figures over the years back - I'd be opening a nice coin shop! I'm embarrassed to say that I can't stop buying the stupid things (3 3/4" GI Joes too). Well, I've heard people on this forum say that I might be able to sell them someday for the petroleum.

HCBTT No i do not roll my zincs up the same way i live in a large city where i am a member to like a total counting branches 15 banks. I want to Dump at TCF Bank but they are nice and will buy me coins so i have about 80% of my money in zinc cents because other banks have coin counters but they have to count them for you and they dont like that. |

So you are able to take them in loose and run them through the counters at the other banks then? None of the banks around me have counters.. either their own or the self service types some banks have in the lobby. Fortunately I have my own counters and one of my banks lets me turn them in by the bag. For my other banks that require the coins to be rolled to deposit I just use one of my rolling machines.
I have found 2 blank planchets so far.. both zinc. |
