Mentions Andy (Ryedale) and this forum, along with a guy named Todd from Michigan with a nice stash of pennies gathered over the course of a year:

Too bad they did not use more of the interview material. Me and Andy probably gave 45 minutes of question and answer in the interview....a lot of really neat and interesting sound bites....but they kept the final edit very lite...

I had a couple of very interesting zinggers with just enough sting to make the sheeple start to think but not overtly critical. Made a great comparison of Cu penny to pre-65 junk silver - lots of stats and data on inflation of FRNs - Cu penny now at 2.5X Face while in 1964 90% silver was only 1.3X Face....way more motive to hoard Cu today than Silver 40 years ago....imaging what our Cu may be worth in 15 years or less...look at how silver went up 25X in one year in 1980...will happen again...even more reasons today.

I told her you can still buy gasoline for 25 cents/gal....as long as you "pay" with a pre-1965 quarter....as it is now worth over $3.50 in paper currency.

Too bad that they have to dumb it down so much.

Trying to create awareness! It is our only path to freedon from the money masters.....until then we are serfs...slaves....

Look on the bright side...at least they didn't try to make you out as some penny hoarding lunatic. Instead they made you sound quite normal and reasoned. It should make some people think...

Gee whiz guys ya'll are giving the game away and I haven't even taken possession of my Ryedale yet!

Like, come on now and give me a few months to build up my hoard, m'kay?

Seriously, it is interesting to see the MSM starting to pay some attention to how bad things are when copper pennies are starting to become worth hoarding.

Hopefully some more people will wake up to the fact that paper currency is always going to fail in the long term unless it's backed by a real source of value, and not just "faith and credit" in politicians which could care less to keep the paper valuable so long as they can print as much as they want to retain their power.

Anyone know if that guy Todd mentioned in the article is a regular here? He has quite a stash for one year of hoarding, and sounds like he has 3 Ryedales working overtime.

Yeah, he is the only guy here that outhoarded me last year.. LOL. Heck, I would have 3 machines going too if I could get bags from the credit union like him instead of rolls. He is a great guy and a serious hoarder. Look at the second poster to this thread. Glad I passed on the interview.. I didn't want to be that famous. Now that the cat's out of the bag everybody and their cousin will start hoarding.. at least until they find out how long it takes to sort those coppers out. Hope this results in more sales for Andy.. he really does make a great machine!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Yeah wouldnt bags be nice? I did a box of MWR last night and I swear it was getting harder and harder to break those open. Even though I hand sort, I still would love to sort through a bag of 5000 instead of breaking open rolls and having to discard the wrappers and box (right now I burn them in the fireplace and my girlfriend laughs at me every time).

we are our own worst enemy. The more publicized this becomes the tougher it will be on the new collectors. This forum get enough traffic and between word of mouth and publicity this topic"PENNY HOARDING YOUR WAY TO FORTUNE" may soon be on national television.
Does anyone wonder if the people at brinks, amsa , the mint, etc. are considering the impact of this hobby and what it is causing?
C140cessna great interview. The reporters head was probably spinning, hope you didn't make another convert.

I'm worried that I will get screwed because I don't have enough money or time to sort as much. I'm trying to pay my way through college so I don't have enough money to buy a ryedale or enough to order several boxes of pennies at once. I can only drop about $10 a week on them. I'm still running about a 25-27% copper percentage though so I'm not scared yet. Todd, you must not be close to me in Michigan, thank god. I wouldn't have any copper to hoard. Thats a very impressive hoard. I hope to have a quarter of that before it's too late. I just started back up again, I didn't sort all summer (new girlfriend, you know how that goes) I have some catching up to do.

You mean you put quality time with a girl ahead of sorting pennies?

Well it's clear where your priorities are, and it isn't copper now is it?

Although I suppose after being married for 18 years now I'm a bit biased.

Pennies look pretty good to me now :)

heh heh.

Ha...I think my girlfriend hates that I spend so much time on the coins. I need to find a way to get her hooked on it but then that would decrease my chances I guess, so forget that idea.

My girlfriend just looks at the stacks and shakes her head. She gets it....I think. She laughs at me most of the time. She does support my habbit with well wishes. She appreciates the wheats. I have to show them to her. Hey, if that keeps the peace, so be it!

Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Yea, mine is supportive but I think she would be of anything I did. She actually offered to help me roll up all my zincs which is cool since I have at least $50 worth of them. She actually finds my rantings about copper and the economy interesting and is one of the few people I know who doesn't think I'm crazy and thinks I am actually smart with this whole thing.

Guys,

Not trying to blow the game for all of us...trying to do 2 things:

1) Create general awareness of the problems with our current FRNs.....this is the most dangerous threat we have ever faced as a nation...way more dangerous than WWII....or current Islamic Terror (we mostly made out own bed with that problem...) Our nation will likely fail if we do not turn the FRN/Federal Reserve/Out of control Govt spending very soon.

2) Create some traction for Ryedale sales....I'm pretty sure most of you do not realize how hard Andy works at his little business....and the amount of $ he had to sink into it up front...I'd dare say he is still underwater even after nearly 2 years...tooling is very expensive. The lower cost "apprentice" model is helping to promote sales...but he needs to reach 300 to 500 units to really make the project worthwhile.

BTW: The American public is in such an economic coma....it would take something well beyond this little NPR gig to drive a serious increase in hoarding....

We need a little awareness to develope a future market.

Keep hoarding - keep saving - we will be rewarded for the hard work.

LOL.. just like my house. She just has more stacks to shake her head at. One day over a year ago she asked me what site I was on. I told her I was on the penny hoarding board. "Well you best get on the penny unhoarding board!" she says. So I started selling bags of copper on eBay just to appease her. Strangely enough, the hoard does not seem to have shrunk any.. maybe even grew a little, even though I sold and shipped over 2 tons last year..

I passed on that interview also. Don't know how she got my cell number, but then she is a reporter. She is very local to me (local station KPCC) and wanted to have a local slant on the story. Glad she went with the Michigan crew. I did not want to dilute my 18% copper pool out here on the left coast, I also get tounge tied when it comes to talking in front of an audience or microphone.

But then who listens to NPR?

I DO! all the time.
