I have an opportunity to purchase a large quantity of Canadian .999 nickels. If anyone has any information on these could you please post it. I am wondering what they are worth today? What would be a good price to pay for them? How scarce are they? The coinflation web site only gives information for American coins is there a similar web site for Canadian coins? Would this be a good purchase? Thank You for any information you can give me.

Here is the page for Canada: You must be logged in to see this link.
They are becoming fairly rare in Canadian circulation - especially close to the US border. |

Oh, I wish I had this opportunity! As I have listed in the BUY SELL Forum, I am looking to trade some silver for some of these .999 nickels. Trying to diversify my investment bullion ;-) Good luck with that! |

It appears that a lot of the big Canadian nickel hoarders are holding out for a return of higher nickel prices. Some also seem to be more interested in trading silver for them.
The only thing I can say as far as a "good price" is the price the buyer and seller are willing to agree on. |

Provided that you can buy them right, they could some day make a good investment. The information I have is that 1981 was the last year that Canada used 1.00 nickel, these are supposed to be worth between .10-.12 cents depending on metal prices.Through 1999 the Canadian mint used .75 copper, .25 nickel although these don't command the same premium they are best bought at face value for the long termer who can afford to wait.( I hear the Canadian mint is slowly pulling these and all pure nickels from circulation because of the metal contents.) Don't pay too much because to recoup any investment you have to understand that refiners will generally want to buy at discounts also. You can contact me with ?'s if you wish. |

I've recently bought two lots of Canadian .999 nickels on Ebay, each at about 85% of the melt value, including postage. I'd rather sort them out of circulation, but that's really not an option here in Texas. |

I process them on scale and sell them regularly for 80% of spot plus freight.
Email me if you are looking. I usually have a couple hundred pounds kicking around.
