Saturdays mornings are busy for me...lots of running around to banks. This morning I dumped $300 in zincs at one bank, then picked up 10 boxes from another bank, then dumped $150 at a different bank, and then for got measure I made a stop at an ATM.
The exciting news is that after making my first dump a teller stopped me as I was getting ready to leave. He said a lady had brought in some pennies and that when he opened the first roll into his till he noticed that it was all wheats! Knowing that I collect pennies, he offered to sell me all the pennies which was $7.00 rolled and a handful loose.
I thanked him profusely and couldn't wait to get home to see what is the rest of the rolls. Anyhow here are the approximate results:
430 wheats including 1909, 1933, 1919x2, 1919 S, 1910, 1914 a 1905 Indian (pitted with date only readable under magnification) 250 other coppers 50 zincs 1 dime
Nothing extremely valuable, but it still made my day.

Congrat's, Horgad! That's quite a haul. It's a reason to keep good relations with the tellers that we deal with. |

That's why being honest about what you do to a point (you collect coins) is helpful. |

day dreams.... all these stories will do for me is give me more day dreams. So far I did pull out 2 silver dimes from about $110 face of dimes I bought this past week. That was all from all of them. All CWRs. |

One of my best ones was in Dec. I asked the head teller if she had gotten in anything weird lately. Much to my surprise I would up leaving 10 mins later with 1,560 Ike Dollars. Derek |

Wow, that is my problem.... I don't have that much cash.... I would die if ever I was offered $1000 in CWR where I found a significan percentage of silver or wheats... I would ask them to hold them for me, but just couldn't manage that much at one time. I have to sort my $200 of cents just to bring back the $150 to buy the next ones. |

Are common circulated Ikes worth keeping? I bought 44 the other day from a bank, but I don't know a thing about them except that if they have a S mint mark they are 40% silver and none of mine did. |

Circulated? Probably not. I think at coin shows they'll get $1.10 or so for uncirculated. |

That sounds about right. It's very much a niche market and it's not a very popular coin. I know some dealers and shops around here give them out as change just for the novelty of it but I dont think there is a huge collector's market for these right now. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Thanks for both the replies. I am going to go ahead and dump them then since none were silver and they are fairly beat up. |

If they aren't beat up there is a slight premium for them. The beat up ones are fun to spend or leave for tips. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
