I bought a lot of my earlier pieces of gold that way. Pretty good unit for trade, etc., but a big rip-off as you observed. Also, I didn't like getting packages from Istanbul (that's got to get you on somebody's list). Having smaller denominations of gold on hand is important IMHO, yet in the long run you should be saving your cash and buying full-sized bullion coins. |

The only thing I never liked about the 1 gram of gold bars is the huge markup. Consider the weight of 1 troy ounce of gold and its price.
1 troy ounce = 31.1 grams (roughly)
That means 1 gram of gold should be 1/31 of the price of gold (roughly) The markup is too high, even the 1/10th oz coins are a better deal.
Sorry to hear about you overpaying for grams of gold, starwarsgeek171, but as they say, there is a buyer for every seller. Maybe you can find someone willing to pay you for your gold grams for more than what you paid for them.

"Having smaller denominations of gold on hand is important." I'm fine. Live and learn. |

| No, Deal, I got outbid :( Oh well, there are plenty of other auctions for me to bid on. But as far as finding gold bullion with very little markup on the actual metal, what would you recommend, since there are no coin dealers within a 75-mile radius of my town that I know of that sell gold coins? The Gold Eagles I've seen listed on various coin sites have about a 10 percent markup over spot, and I sure don't want to pay that much. Any suggestions? |

Have you tried You must be logged in to see this link. ? I have personally not bought there, as I buy locally mostly, but I know a lot who have. Hope I didn't break any rules by posting that link....That road trip to the dealer MIGHT be worth it if you can get a good price. A lot of hidden costs in shipping and insurance costs. Good luck and don't make a rash decision....
